REVELATION MUST BE TERRIBLE

Revelation must be
terrible with no time left
to say goodbye.

Imagine that moment
staring at the still waters
with only the brief tremor

of your body to say
you are leaving everything
and everyone you know behind.

Being far from home is hard, but you know,
at least we are all exiled together.
When you open your eyes to the world

you are on your own for
the first time. No one is
even interested in saving you now

and the world steps in
to test the calm fluidity of your body
from moment to moment

as if it believed you could join
its vibrant dance
of fire and calmness and final stillness.

As if you were meant to be exactly
where you are, as if
like the dark branch of a desert river

you could flow on without a speck
of guilt and everything
everywhere would still be just as it should be.

As if your place in the world mattered
and the world could
neither speak nor hear the fullness of

its own bitter and beautiful cry
without the deep well
of your body resonating in the echo.

Knowing that it takes only
that one, terrible
word to make the circle complete,

revelation must be terrible
knowing you can
never hide your voice again.

The fire of a real, physical sense of revelation in the world may be one of the most nourishing experiences we have in life, but it is almost always accompanied by the sense of our previous identities being overwhelmed; of a certain kind of radical undoing, a vulnerability and a new voice, not to begin with, quite recognized, but ours now, and one that will claim any revelation not merely as insight, but as a new life. The best sort of meditation

On Meditating, Sort Of, by Mary Oliver

Meditation, so I’ve heard, is best accomplished
if you entertain a certain strict posture.
Frankly, I prefer just to lounge under a tree.
So why should I think I could ever be successful?

Some days I fall asleep, or land in that
even better place — half asleep — where the world, spring, summer, autumn, winter —
flies through my mind in its hardy ascent and its uncompromising descent.

So I just lie like that, while distance and time
reveal their true attitudes: they never
heard of me, and never will, or ever need to.

Of course I wake up finally
thinking, how wonderful to be who I am,
made out of earth and water,
my own thoughts, my own fingerprints —
all that glorious, temporary stuff.

🌱You know that spot at the top of your neck? Does it ever feel tight or painful? Well, it has on me, and many other people I encounter.
🌱Our neck, while a wonder of motion, also narrows, protects and moves A LOT. Craniosacral Therapy can address this, relieving pain and tension in your neck and head.
🌱Less tension in your whole neck? May also help relieve tight breathing. Ask me how!😀

🌱Can I talk about snot? 🤧 Its gross, but we all have it, and I've been hearing from people with really clogged sinuses. Working with sinuses is one of the things I do in cranio. With permission to share, here's what one client had to say after s cranio session:
"Emailing to let you know that after session I horked up the most impressive ball of snot I have ever seen. I think you should add "snot free-er" to your website description. You're a miracle worker in so many ways. But actually 🤣💕"

Always Love David Whyte's reflections. This poem reminds me of often the best part of craniosacral therapy. The feeling that what we needed was there all along, inside. A feeling of coming home, to oneself. Letting go. That who we are, is enough, in the moment. Guess what, our nervous system loves that feeling and tends to regulate with that.

THE WELL

But the miracle had come simply
from allowing yourself to know
that this time you had found it,

that some now familiar stranger
appearing from far inside you,
had decided not to walk past
it anymore; that the miracle

had come in the kneeling to drink
and the prayer you said,
and the tears you shed
and the memories you held

and the realization that in this silence
you no longer had to keep
your eyes and ears averted
from the place that could save you,

and that you had the strength
at last to let go of that thirsty,
unhappy, dust laden
pilgrim-self that brought you here,

walking with her bent back,
her bowed head
and her careful explanations.

No, the miracle had already
happened before you stood up,
before you shook off the dust
and walked along the road
beyond the well, out of the desert
and on, toward the mountain,
as if home again, as if you
deserved to have everything
you had loved all along,

as if just remembering the first
fresh taste of that clear cool spring
could lift up your face
to the morning light
and set you free.

This article talks about "focusing", noticing the actual felt sense in the body when an emotion/feeling comes up, a technique I sometimes use along with cranio to help release body tension.

Focusing as a somatic approach to therapy.

🍂Prepping for teaching on the facial complex. You know what? I get excited about the head and face, and super excited about the nerves of the face. Why? I love the face/head, and after struggling with a ton of cranial tension myself, it makes me so happy to help facilitate more ease and less pain in people's heads. 🍂 The nerve in this pic? The trigeminal nerve, a huge beautiful nerve that feels everything in our face and head, from pleasure to pain.

Worth a read. Let's not throw out the meds and diagnoses if they're helping, but we can change how we think about mental health illness as an adaptive response to stress and trauma (also keeping in mind epigenetics, which this article doesn't address). This changes how we interact with mental illness professionally and personally.
This is how I've learned to interact with most body discomfort, body/mental/ emotional, with Craniosacral Therapy and TRE. Understanding adaptive responses and the body's deep wired needs to resolve these responses; or at least as much as possible given present circumstances.

What if mental disorders like anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder aren’t mental disorders at all?

Love this! Calm is excellent but other feeling states are also awsome or, if not fun, valuable. Partly why I am taking the TRE course and adding it to my session offerings this coming fall.

Being calm” is one of the most misunderstood parts of regulation. Being calm is not the point- learning how to stay mindfully connected to ourselves in the midst of the internal activation we experience is the the goal of learning how to regulate.

When we put more value on being calm, we not only send a message that the other emotional states inside us are “not as good” setting ourselves up to feel guilt and shame when they arise or when being calm is a struggle, but we also set the stage to inadvertently bypass the most important part of the regulation experience- Learning how to mindfully “be with” all aspects of our human experience.

Love this, the changes from the heart in a meditative state.

A scientifically controlled study conducted by German researchers at the University of Kassel has shown that while the chest area of an average person emits only 20 photons of light per second, someone who meditates on their heart center and sends love and light to others emits an amazing 100,000 photons per second. That is 5000 times more than the average human being. Numerous studies have also shown that when these photons are infused with a loving and healing intent, their frequency and vibration increases to the point where they can literally change matter, heal disease, and transform negative events.

The Heart also Loves, feels, thinks and remembers and communicates with other Hearts. It stores information and continually with each beat pulses this information through the body. It is far more than what modern science would have you believe. It is also a pump that pumps the cellular symphony that is the very essence of your being and it is a magnetic and radiating vortex and the true source of human power.

Here's a repost from my clinic page. Happy New Year, Happy Winter Solstice to all of you out there!

🌱Happy New Year! What a year, looking back I can't believe we've been re-opened since June for more than 6 months. I'm so grateful to all our practitioners who worked so hard and all of you who have supported us through this time.

We've worked hard to keep you safe and you have been careful for our sake. While there is a time to physically not show up to keep each other safe, I do appreciate the ethic of showing up, even if it's metaphorical or done creatively.

Over the past few years of moving into ownership of Fort Langley Massage & Holistic Health and moving through all the unpredictability of this year, Brene Brown's ethic of "showing up" even when it's hard, and honestly sometimes terrifying, has stayed me true.

Here's to all of us here in our community who have kept showing up, however that may look.

The birds are singing, the light is coming back. And honestly, I'm optimistic. Happy Newyear!!!!
Naomi,
