🌿 What is the “Entourage Effect”?

The entourage effect is the idea that the compounds found in cannabis — including cannabinoids like THC and CBD, along with terpenes and other plant compounds — may work better together than they do individually.

Rather than a single compound doing all the work, these components may interact within the body to create a more balanced and potentially more effective therapeutic effect.

For some patients, this is why full-spectrum or whole-plant cannabis products are often explored as part of a treatment plan.

Research into the entourage effect is ongoing, but it continues to shape how physicians and patients think about personalized medical cannabis care.

💜 March is Epilepsy Awareness Month in Canada

More than 360,000 Canadians are living with epilepsy, a neurological condition that causes recurring seizures and can significantly impact quality of life.

For some patients, conventional anti-seizure medications don’t provide enough relief. Emerging research suggests that medical cannabis — particularly cannabinoid-based treatments like CBD — may help reduce seizure frequency for certain individuals when used under medical guidance.

In some clinical observations, patients with drug-resistant epilepsy experienced extended periods of seizure freedom after using cannabis-based extracts, highlighting the growing interest in cannabinoid therapies for seizure management.

At Greenleaf, our goal is to help patients explore safe, physician-guided medical cannabis options that may support their health and quality of life.

💜 If you or someone you love is living with epilepsy, you may be eligible for medical cannabis treatment.

✨ 3 surprising ways to calm your nervous system

When stress builds up, your nervous system can shift into “fight or flight” mode — making it harder to relax, focus, or sleep. The good news? Small, simple actions can help signal to your body that it’s safe to slow down.

Here are 3 unexpected ways to help your nervous system reset:

💧 Splash cold water on your face or wrists
🎶 Hum or sing your favorite song
🚶 Take a short walk without your phone

These small moments can help your body move back into a calmer, more balanced state.

🌿 Study Spotlight: Medical Cannabis & Fibromyalgia Pain

New observational research from Italy examined the use of plant-derived THC extracts in patients living with treatment-resistant fibromyalgia pain.

In a cohort of 65 patients who used THC-dominant extracts daily for six months, participants experienced an average 2.6-point reduction in pain on a 10-point scale.

Many of the participants had been living with fibromyalgia for years and had not responded to conventional pharmacological treatments.

Researchers also noted that younger patients experienced the most pronounced improvements.

Additional longitudinal research from the UK has similarly found that cannabis-based treatments may support improvements in pain, anxiety, sleep, and overall quality of life for people living with fibromyalgia.

As research continues to evolve, studies like this help expand our understanding of how medical cannabis may support patients seeking new therapeutic options.

🌿 Medical cannabis & PTSD

Living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can affect far more than memory or mood. For many people, it can impact sleep, emotional regulation, relationships, and the ability to feel safe in everyday life. Symptoms may include intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, anxiety, nightmares, and difficulty resting or relaxing.

It’s understandable that individuals living with PTSD often seek additional options for symptom support.

👉 So where does medical cannabis fit into the conversation?

Some patients explore medical cannabis as part of a broader, clinician-guided approach to managing PTSD-related symptoms.

Cannabis interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in:

• Stress response
• Mood regulation
• Sleep processes
• Memory and fear processing
• Nervous system balance

Because of this, some individuals report symptom support in areas such as:

✨ Sleep disruption or nightmares
✨ Anxiety and hyperarousal
✨ Mood-related symptoms
✨ Overall quality of life

PTSD care is deeply personal, and support should always be trauma-informed, individualised, and guided by a qualified healthcare professional.

If you’re navigating PTSD and wondering whether medical cannabis may be an option worth discussing, our team is here to provide evidence-informed guidance and compassionate care.

🧠 Wellness Wednesday: 5 Small Habits That Support Brain Health

Your brain never really gets a day off.
It helps you focus, make decisions, regulate emotions, remember moments, and move through the world — all while quietly adapting to stress, screens, and endless to-do lists.

The good news? Supporting brain health doesn’t require drastic changes. Small, consistent habits can make a meaningful difference over time.

Here are 5 simple ways to support your brain every day:

• Prioritise sleep — quality rest supports memory, learning, and emotional balance
• Stay hydrated — even mild dehydration can impact concentration and mental clarity
• Move your body — walking and gentle movement improve blood flow to the brain
• Nourish with healthy fats — omega-3s support brain structure and function
• Take screen breaks — mental rest is just as important as productivity

✨ Brain health isn’t about doing everything perfectly — it’s about caring for your nervous system a little more intentionally, one day at a time.

🌿 Same Product, Different Experience: Why Cannabis Effects Vary

With medical cannabis, different experiences are not unusual — even when two people use the exact same product.

Cannabis effects can vary based on many individual factors, including:

• Your endocannabinoid system and natural sensitivity
• How your body metabolizes cannabinoids
• Previous cannabis exposure and tolerance
• Other medications or health conditions
• Timing, dose, and route of administration
• Your nervous system and stress response

Because of this, a product that feels calming and supportive for one person may feel too strong, too subtle, or simply different for another.

💬 This variability is exactly why medical cannabis is not one-size-fits-all.

Finding the right approach often takes time, careful adjustment, and clinician-guided support — not comparison or trial and error alone.

At Greenleaf, our team works with patients to develop individualized, evidence-informed treatment plans that prioritize safety, comfort, and realistic goals.

🫀🌿 Study Spotlight: 5 weeks of CBD lowered 24-hour blood pressure in people with hypertension

High blood pressure is one of the most common—and most underestimated—risk factors for heart disease and stroke. So when a triple-blind, randomized, crossover trial reports measurable improvements, it’s worth paying attention.

A European Heart Journal abstract (HYPER-H21-4 trial) explored whether chronic oral cannabidiol (CBD)—a non-intoxicating cannabinoid—could impact cardiovascular markers in primary hypertension.

What they did…

• 70 adults with primary hypertension
• Oral CBD vs placebo for 5 weeks, then a 2-week washout, then crossover to the other arm
• Used 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring, plus ECG Holter monitoring and blood biomarkers

What they found…

After 5 weeks of CBD:

✅ 24-hour systolic BP dropped ~4 mmHg
✅ 24-hour diastolic BP dropped ~3 mmHg

They also observed reductions in certain blood biomarkers (including catestatin and urotensin-II) and some inflammatory markers moving in the same direction—suggesting possible pathways involving sympathetic tone, vascular/endothelial signaling, and inflammation.

What didn’t change

No significant changes were reported in:

• Heart-rate variability (HRV)
• Arterial stiffness indices
• Several other cytokines/markers measured

🌿 Why medical cannabis follow-ups matter

Medical cannabis is not a one-time decision — it’s an ongoing treatment process.

Just like any other therapeutic approach, finding the right cannabis plan often takes time, adjustment, and clinical guidance. Symptoms can change, tolerance can shift, and the most effective dose or format may evolve over time.

That’s why follow-up care is such an important part of responsible medical cannabis use.

Follow-up appointments allow patients and clinicians to:

• Review symptom progress and treatment goals
• Adjust dosing gradually and safely
• Monitor for side effects or unwanted effects
• Explore different formats or cannabinoid ratios
• Ensure cannabis use remains appropriate alongside other medications

Many patients find that the most meaningful improvements come through careful personalization — not trial and error alone.

💬 Medical cannabis care works best when it’s guided, monitored, and adapted to the individual.

At Greenleaf, we provide ongoing support to help patients feel informed, safe, and confident throughout their treatment journey.

🌿 Migraines aren’t “just a headache.”

For many people, migraines can involve throbbing pain, nausea, light sensitivity, brain fog, missed work, and disrupted sleep — sometimes lasting hours or even days.
It’s no surprise that individuals living with recurrent migraines often look for additional ways to manage their symptoms.

👉 So where does medical cannabis fit into the conversation?

Some people living with migraines, tension-type headaches, and chronic daily headaches explore medical cannabis as part of a broader, personalized symptom-management plan.
Cannabis interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in:

• Pain signaling
• Inflammation
• Nausea
• Sensory processing
• Sleep regulation

Because of this interaction, some patients report support with symptoms such as:

✨ Migraine-related pain
✨ Nausea or vomiting
✨ Sensitivity to light or sound
✨ Sleep disruption

💬 When it comes to migraine care, clinician-guided support is key.

If you’re navigating migraines and wondering whether medical cannabis could be an option for you, our team is here to provide evidence-informed guidance and compassionate care.

About Us

The Greenleaf Medical Clinic was founded in 2011 and assesses patients across Canada for their eligibility into Health Canada's Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) program.

The ACMPR provides a legal framework for patients to legally use ma*****na for beneficial relief of various symptoms.

Our physician's role is to assess patient eligibility through chart review and/or discussions with the patients' primary care physician or specialist(s). When deemed eligible, an appointment is scheduled for either an on-site consultation or a tele-medicine appointment through VSee. Tele-medicine consultations accommodate patients that cannot travel to our clinic due to illness or distance. Tele-Medicine allows patients across the country to benefit from our services that are otherwise unavailable. In either case, the physician will complete the required medical document authorizing the patient to use cannabis as medicine.

Following the patient/physician consultation, the patient will work with one of the clinic's medical office assistants to decide on the licensed commercial producer that best suits their requirements. Strains will be recommended as per the physicians chart notes and past patient experiences.
