🧠 C*nnabis and the Central Nervous System: Why Effects Vary by Symptom
Medical c*nnabis interacts with the central nervous system (CNS) in complex and highly individualized ways. While often discussed broadly, its effects can differ significantly depending on the specific symptom being addressed.
Cannabinoids interact with receptors throughout the brain and spinal cord that help regulate pain perception, muscle tone, mood, sleep, and neurological signaling.
Because these systems serve different functions, responses can vary widely—both across symptoms and between individuals.
If you’re exploring whether medical c*nnabis may be appropriate for your health needs, our clinicians are here to help guide that conversation.

🦵 Joint Health Isn’t About Age — It’s About Movement Variety
Joint stiffness, aches, and reduced mobility aren’t just a normal part of getting older. In many cases, they’re linked to how often—and how differently—we move throughout the day.
Our joints are designed for movement in multiple directions. When we stay in the same positions for long periods (sitting, standing, or repetitive motions), joints can become stiff and less resilient over time.
The goal isn’t intense exercise—it’s regular, varied movement that keeps joints nourished, flexible, and supported.
This Wellness Wednesday, think less about doing more—and more about moving differently. 💚 Small movements, done often, can make a big difference.

💜 January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month 💜
Alzheimer’s disease affects memory, cognition, and independence—and it doesn’t just impact those diagnosed, but also the families and caregivers who support them every day.
While there is currently no cure, medical cannabis has emerged as a potential supportive therapy for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Research and clinical observations suggest that cannabinoid-based treatments may help manage symptoms commonly associated with the condition, including agitation, anxiety, sleep disturbances, appetite changes, and chronic pain 🌿
By interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system—which plays a role in memory, mood, inflammation, and neurological balance—medical c*nnabis may help support comfort, quality of life, and day-to-day functioning for some patients.
At Greenleaf, our clinicians work closely with patients and caregivers to determine whether medical c*nnabis may be an appropriate option, with education, guidance, and ongoing support every step of the way 🤝
If you or someone you care for is living with Alzheimer’s disease and looking for additional supportive care options, we’re here to help.

New clinical research is highlighting a potential way to support breast cancer patients experiencing treatment-related pain 💡
Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are commonly prescribed for hormone receptor–positive breast cancer, but up to two-thirds of patients develop aromatase inhibitor–induced musculoskeletal syndrome (AIMSS)—a condition marked by joint pain, stiffness, and reduced hand function 🖐️.
These symptoms can significantly impact daily life and make it harder for patients to stay on treatment.
A randomized clinical trial published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research evaluated topical CBD-dominant and THC-dominant balms in women with stage I–III breast cancer experiencing AIMSS.
Participants applied the balms to their hands three times daily over two weeks, with many continuing for an additional two weeks.
📊 Key findings:
• 86% of participants reported improved pain and hand function
• Greater improvement was observed in the THC-dominant group
• Treatments were well tolerated, with only mild, localized skin irritation reported
• No systemic absorption or hormone level changes were observed
These findings suggest topical, localized therapies may offer a promising supportive care option to help improve comfort, function, and quality of life for breast cancer survivors 💗
Muscle spasticity — marked by stiffness, involuntary muscle contractions, and spasms — can significantly affect daily life for people living with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, or post-stroke complications.
For some patients, conventional treatments may offer limited relief or come with challenging side effects. As a result, interest has grown around medical c*nnabis as a potential adjunct therapy for managing spasticity-related symptoms.
Research suggests that cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in neuromuscular signaling and muscle tone regulation. In clinical settings, some patients report improvements in spasticity severity, comfort, and overall quality of life when medical cannabis is carefully integrated into their care plan.
At Greenleaf, we believe medical c*nnabis care should be personalized, evidence-informed, and guided by qualified healthcare professionals. Every patient’s experience is different — which is why education, assessment, and ongoing support matter.
If you’re living with spasticity and wondering whether medical c*nnabis may be an appropriate option for you, our team is here to help you explore your options in a safe and supportive environment.

Many patients use medical cannabis to manage symptoms related to conditions such as cancer, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, neurological disorders, autoimmune conditions, and sleep or anxiety disorders.
While c*nnabis can be helpful, it can also interact with prescription medications, even at low doses and even when symptom relief is noticeable.
Cannabinoids can affect how the body processes medications, potentially reducing treatment effectiveness, increasing side effects, or changing drug levels without clear warning signs. For patients managing complex or serious conditions, these interactions can be especially important.
This is why medical consultation matters. Safe cannabis use isn’t about guesswork — it’s about understanding your diagnosis, medications, and individual health needs.
At Greenleaf Medical Clinic, our physicians provide personalized c*nnabis care that includes comprehensive medication reviews, interaction screening, and condition-specific treatment planning.

🔬 New Research: CBD Shows Powerful Anti-Cancer Activity Against Melanoma
A newly published study in Science Direct Phytomedicine found that cannabidiol (CBD) triggered cancer cell death and suppressed the spread of melanoma, one of the most aggressive forms of skin cancer. Researchers observed that CBD induced apoptosis, inhibited tumor growth, and reduced lung metastasis in preclinical models.
The study also uncovered a novel epigenetic mechanism, showing that CBD activates a specific pathway (PPARγ–TET1) that alters gene expression to slow cancer progression — marking the first evidence of CBD limiting melanoma through DNA methylation.
While preclinical, these findings add to the growing body of research exploring the therapeutic potential of medical cannabis compounds in oncology.
Thinking about taking a break from THC — or wondering if a reset might be right for you? 🌿
A THC washout (sometimes called a tolerance break or reset for several days to a few weeks) is something people consider for many reasons — whether it’s to better understand their baseline symptoms, reassess how medical c*nnabis is working for them, or simply give their system a pause.
Because THC is stored in the body and processed over time, how long it takes to clear can vary from person to person. Factors like frequency of use, metabolism, hydration, activity level, and product type all play a role 🧬
A thoughtful washout often focuses on supportive habits like:
💧 Staying well hydrated
🥗 Eating nutrient-rich foods
🏃♀️ Moving your body regularly
😴 Prioritizing sleep and stress management
📋 Monitoring symptoms and progress along the way
For some, short-term changes like irritability, changes in sleep, or appetite shifts can occur — which is why guidance and realistic expectations matter.
At Greenleaf, our team helps patients navigate tolerance breaks, treatment reassessment, and personalized care plans with safety and clarity in mind.

Depression can affect more than mood — it can impact motivation, energy, focus, sleep, and overall quality of life. For many people, these symptoms can make day-to-day activities feel overwhelming 🧠
Medical cannabis is being explored as a supportive option for some individuals living with depression, particularly when symptoms such as low mood, loss of interest, or emotional heaviness persist.
Certain formulations may help support emotional regulation and overall well-being when used as part of a personalized care plan 🌿
Because depression is complex and highly individual, responses to medical cannabis can vary. Factors such as formulation, dose, and a person’s overall health all matter, which is why education and clinical oversight are essential when considering this option.
At Greenleaf, our focus is on patient-centred care and helping individuals explore whether medical cannabis may be an appropriate part of their treatment journey, safely and responsibly.

Feeling off today? 😵💫 You’re not alone — and it doesn’t always mean something big is wrong. Sometimes it’s your body quietly asking for a small reset.
If your energy feels low, your focus is scattered, or everything just feels a bit out of sync, try making one gentle shift at a time 🌿
🚶♀️ Step outside for a few minutes
Fresh air and natural light can help reset your internal clock and give your nervous system a quick boost. Even a short break outdoors can support focus and energy.
💧 Drink some water before reaching for caffeine
Dehydration can contribute to fatigue and brain fog. Rehydrating first may help you feel more alert — sometimes that’s all your body needs.
🌬️ Slow your breathing and drop your shoulders
Stress often shows up as shallow breathing and tension. Taking a few slower breaths and relaxing your body can help signal calm and bring your system back into balance.
🔄 Change your environment, even briefly
A small shift — moving rooms, standing up, or stepping away from a screen — can help break mental fatigue and refresh your focus.
Wellness isn’t about pushing through or fixing everything at once. It’s about noticing how you feel — and responding with care 💚

The Greenleaf Medical Clinic was founded in 2011 and assesses patients across Canada for their eligibility into Health Canada's Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) program.
The ACMPR provides a legal framework for patients to legally use ma*****na for beneficial relief of various symptoms.
Our physician's role is to assess patient eligibility through chart review and/or discussions with the patients' primary care physician or specialist(s). When deemed eligible, an appointment is scheduled for either an on-site consultation or a tele-medicine appointment through VSee. Tele-medicine consultations accommodate patients that cannot travel to our clinic due to illness or distance. Tele-Medicine allows patients across the country to benefit from our services that are otherwise unavailable. In either case, the physician will complete the required medical document authorizing the patient to use cannabis as medicine.
Following the patient/physician consultation, the patient will work with one of the clinic's medical office assistants to decide on the licensed commercial producer that best suits their requirements. Strains will be recommended as per the physicians chart notes and past patient experiences.
Please note the clinic does not provide medication, as we are not a compassion club or a dispensary. The only legal source of medication for patients is to access their medical ma*****na from one of Health Canada's licensed commercial producers. For a complete list of producers or more information regarding the Health Canada ACMPR program, please visit MedicalMarijuana.ca.
