What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is a way for kids to express what they’re feeling or going through using play because play is how kids naturally communicate and make sense of the world. Instead of talking things out like adults do, they use toys, games, art, and movement to explore emotions and work through challenges, all with the support of a trained therapist.

Why Sandtray Therapy?
Sandtray therapy gives kids a chance to express their thoughts and feelings without needing to use words. Using a tray of sand and a wide variety of miniature figures like people, animals, buildings, and objects, children create scenes or “worlds” that reflect what’s going on inside. It’s a powerful and creative way for them to explore emotions, experiences, and even things they may not fully understand or know how to talk about yet.

Play is a child’s natural language and play therapy gives them the space to express what they cannot always say. In a safe and supportive environment, therapists use play to help children work through emotions, build coping skills, and grow stronger relationships. Especially helpful for ages 3 to 12, play therapy can support children facing anxiety, grief, trauma, or major life changes and guide them toward healing and resilience.

Why Group Play Therapy?
One great thing about group play therapy is that it gives kids a chance to learn and practice social skills with other children in a safe, supportive setting.

Meet Julie Bodni!

Julie takes an integrated approach to mental health, combining a Polyvagal framework with somatic and mindful strength-based practices. By exploring and regulating your autonomic nervous system, you’ll develop tools to identify the sources of stress and access resources to manage and overcome them.

With a deep passion for helping others improve their mental health and overall wellness, Julie offers a safe, non-judgmental space where you are supported without advice or judgment. Her focus is to guide you through reflection, processing, and healing, allowing you to uncover and discover your own path toward well-being.

Julie believes that understanding the neuroscience behind how we function as human beings can be transformative. By learning to access and regulate your nervous system, you can build awareness and expand your capacity to handle discomfort, trauma, and negative influences. This approach helps reduce anxiety, depression, and stress, while promoting resilience. Our Story

Many people wander through life feeling stunted, as if they are biding time rather than truly living each moment. Above all, the most common complaint we hear from our clients is that they feel stuck. Stuck in anger, frustration, stress, grief or sadness, in fear, depression or anxiety. Some are stuck in unhealthy relationships or unhealthy patterns of relating to others. For some the feeling of being stuck is new and uncomfortable, for others it has been a lifetime. This can be the result of our life experiences, our past hurts, and the pressure of day to day stressors, leaving a sense of dissatisfaction, irritability, difficulty in relationships and the feeling of being out of control. ThriveLife Counselling & Wellness is a collective of highly skilled clinicians with a shared vision and passion for promoting growth and wellness for the clients we serve. Visit our website to learn more about our counsellors and their areas of specialized practice.
