How is oxygen good for the skin? They tell us just to breathe, but have you ever stopped to think why you are doing this? And how does it help the skin? Our lives are full of busy schedules, fast paced lifestyle habits and often we are holding our breath or perhaps you’re still wearing a mask which does create you to be shallow breathing.
When we embrace breath work or purposeful breathing, we are doing this with intention. Deep breathing will flush the excess carbon dioxide from your body and replace it with rich supply of cell energizing oxygen. This will improve circulation, re-energize the cells and minimize the impact of stress on the skin.
In comparison when we are holding our breath or shallow breathing this starved the body of its vital nutrients. This sudden lack of oxygen sets alarm bells off in our bodies, unleashing a flood of unwanted cortisol throughout our body. Not to mention it affects our lung capacity and our lung health which is associated with our immunity health. And that is so important when it is flu season.
Simply take a few minutes out of your day in the morning and at night. Find somewhere you can sit comfortably with a straight spine. Through your nostrils, Take in a steady deep breath, inhaling until you reach your full capacity, keep your spine straight. Hold your breath for a second, and slowly exhale through your nostrils. Start by doing this nine, then 18, then 27 and work your way up to 36 times. Do this daily.
When you’re finding yourself stressed or have anxiety, take the time to do this purposeful breathing or breath work to calm the body.
Breath work is very powerful. The benefits of breathing can help promote calmness, detoxify the body, stimulate lymphatic system, and help create mental clarity..
