Workplace conflict can lead to depression, anxiety, burnout, and low job satisfaction. Incivility in the office often starts at lower levels and, if not dealt with adequately, can make its way up into management and permeate the culture over time. Equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives can help to ward off some of these effects at an early stage. Increasingly, workplaces are working with psychologists to place an emphasis on interpersonal skills and developing tools to assess them. When these tools are put in place and highlighted during the onboarding process for new employees, the outcomes are better for everyone.
