Being a first-time mom is overwhelming.
You’ve spent years mastering life, and suddenly nothing follows a plan.
You feel tired, uncertain, like pieces of yourself have disappeared.
You can grow as a mom and still honor who you are.

You already know how to be there for your children, how to mother...
But how do you mother yourself???

Here are 6 grounded, doable ways to nurture yourself as an Arab immigrant mother:

1. Create pockets of emotional privacy.
Not everything you feel has to be explained or justified. Let yourself have internal space, even if it’s 5 minutes in the car before pick-up.

2. Reclaim routines that feel like you.
Your life may be full of others’ needs, but you’re still allowed to make coffee your way, listen to music you like, use a soap in your shower that reminds you of home.

3. Stop negotiating your need for rest.
You don’t have to finish everything before you pause. Rest is not earned. It’s required (and laundry will wait:) )

4. Notice inherited guilt, and challenge it.
You were raised in a culture where giving = goodness. But depletion is not love.
Start asking: “Is this my value talking or my fear?”

5. Let yourself be cared for.
Say yes when someone offers help.
Let your partner take over.
Let your kids see you receive.

Remothering isn’t about replacing your mother or blamjng her.
It’s about becoming the steady, quiet presence your nervous system never had (as much as we can!)
Start with one small act today and repeat it tomorrow.

There’s nothing normal about watching pain from far away.
Immigrant hearts feel it twice; for here and for home.
ما في شي طبيعي إنك تشوف وجع من بعيد وتكفي نهارك كأنو ما صار شي.

Some roles demand more than training, they ask for lived experience, quiet resilience, and cultural intuition.

Immigrant therapists do this every day.
Not just offering support, but navigating layered spaces with humility and heart.
Making room for emotions shaped by language, displacement, memory, and silence.

This post is a tribute,
To those who carry both presence and perspective.
To those who walk beside others while carrying parts of their own story, too.

To every immigrant therapist:
Your work is seen. Your impact is real.
Thank you. It’s an honor to share this path with you.

She’s the friend who shows up when the world is loud and the heart is tired.

She doesn’t try to fix.
She doesn’t judge.
She sits in the hard moments.
Listens. Nods. Says, “same.”

On the days when everything feels heavy,
she offers light.

Motherhood can be lonely
but small, safe connections make a difference.

In a world that asks mothers to carry so much, being seen, truly seen, is a form of care.

Have you ever felt like everyone is happy for you…
but inside, you're barely holding on?
You smile, you say “I’m fine,” but something feels off... like you're not quite yourself anymore....

This goes beyond the baby blues.
Postpartum depression affects 1 in 5 mothers.
It can look like sadness, anxiety, guilt, numbness, or difficulty bonding with your baby.

Mama, You’re not broken.
You’re a human being going through a HUGE transition.

🌿 To all expecting and new moms:
Therapies like CBT and ACT offer gentle tools that really help, starting with small things like getting out of the house, reconnecting with your values, and creating moments of light.

Hello! Bonjour! مرحبا!

I am a licensed psychologist practicing since 2017, wife and a proud mom of two sweet boys.

Having worked in different clinical settings has shaped who I am as a therapist. These diverse experiences, along with personal moments of grief, have deepened my empathy and strengthened my belief in each person’s capacity for healing and growth.

I’ve been living in Quebec for the past five years, and I founded my private practice three years ago. I’m especially passionate about supporting immigrants, particularly mothers, as they navigate the emotional, cultural, and relational challenges of building a new life.

I believe in change, growth, and the healing power of feeling seen and supported.

A few things about me:
🌿 Nature is my reset button, I could stay outside for hours.
🎨 I love creating and exploring art.
🍵 Tea over coffee (always!)
🧘‍♀️ Yoga and dancing bring me joy, even if it’s hard to fit them in lately (because motherhood right?)
🤍I’m on my own journey too! still growing, still learning, just like everyone else.

If you’re new here, I’m so glad you found this space.
If you’ve been here for a while, thank you for being part of it 🤍

Many people live on autopilot, constantly putting others first.
Not because they don’t matter, but because somewhere along the way, they learned:
➡️ “My needs can wait.”
➡️ “As long as they’re okay, I’m okay.”

Until… the burnout comes.
Until… the low mood settles in.
Until… your body whispers what you’ve been ignoring.

Caring for yourself is not selfish. It’s essential.
Do you often prioritize other people’s needs before your own?

This week, I’m pausing to take it all in.

I sat with 23 clients, each one holding their own story, their own strength, their own struggle. It’s always an honor to witness that process and be trusted in those vulnerable moments.

Motherhood, as always, was right there beside me😁 reminding me of my limits, my strength, and just how much energy it takes to be present for little humans who always seem to need all of you, all at once.

I carved out time for two self-care moments (yes, even psychologists need to refill their cup), and I got to listen to one of my favorite podcasts, gentle reminder that we’re never alone in this messy, beautiful journey.

And while the schedule was packed, it flowed as smoothly as possible, with lots of deep breaths and a little bit of grace.

This is what holding space for others and myself looks like.🥰

Did you know?

Mothers often carry the weight of self-blame and guilt, influenced by societal pressures, personal expectations, and the relentless pursuit of perfection.

Internalized beliefs about what it means to be a "good" mother can contribute to feelings of guilt if mothers believe they are not living up to these standards.

The responsibility of raising children comes with immense pressure!
So how do you overcome feelings of guilt as a mom?

The imperfect journey of motherhood😅
