🌟 October is AAC Awareness Month 🌟

What is AAC?
AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) includes tools and strategies—like picture symbols, communication boards, and speech-generating devices—that support or replace spoken language.

Why is it important?
AAC gives children a way to express themselves, build connections, and participate more fully in their world. It doesn’t stop speech—it opens doors to language and learning.

💖 We are so proud of this little one and the amazing progress he’s making. Every symbol he points to is a step toward greater confidence, independence, and connection. Because every voice deserves to be heard.

✨ This week in speech we used the Sorting Pie with a sensory bin to target so many goals in a fun, hands-on way!

🍎 Language: naming fruits, colors, and describing (big/small, soft/hard).
🌈 Categories: sorting by color and type.
🗣️ Speech sounds: practicing /p/ in “pear, pie, purple, apple”
🤝 Social skills: turn-taking, requesting, and commenting with peers.
🧠 Concepts: following directions, same vs. different, more/less.

Play-based learning keeps kids motivated while addressing multiple goals at once 💡🍌🍇

Today, we worked on reading, writing, and executive functioning skills using the Get Ready, Do, Done model — and we baked a cake along the way. 🧁💛

✨ Get Ready → we read through the recipe, made a list of ingredients, and planned out what we would need. This step supports reading comprehension, writing, organization, and planning ahead.

✨ Do → we followed the steps of the recipe, checked off each part, and problem-solved when things came up. This builds sequencing, flexibility, and self-monitoring.

✨ Done → we looked back at the finished product and reflected on the process. This step helps with self-reflection and building independence.

It might look like “just baking,” but what’s really happening is language and executive functioning in action. Kids practice planning, organizing, sequencing, reading, writing, and problem-solving in a way that feels fun, natural, and rewarding. 🧁💡💕

💬 Ever wondered what happens during a speech therapy session?

Speech therapy isn’t about worksheets and drills — it’s play-based, interactive, and fun! 🎲🎨🧩

Each session is tailored to your child’s unique needs and interests while targeting specific goals to help them grow and thrive. 🌟

👉 Therapy looks like play, but every activity has a purpose!

BACK TO SCHOOL ✏️📚

We kicked off the school year with this literacy-themed sensory bin, and it was such a hit!

Using letters, crayons, and colorful manipulatives, we were able to target a variety of early literacy goals in a fun, hands-on way:

🔤 Phonemic Awareness – finding a letter and saying its sound, or coming up with words that start with it.

🎶 Phonological Awareness – clapping out syllables, matching beginning sounds, or sorting letters by rhyming words.

📝 Letter Recognition – identifying, naming, and matching upper- and lowercase letters.

📚 Vocabulary & Categorization – naming objects, sorting colors, and making connections to back-to-school items.

Engaging little hands with sensory play helps build strong language and literacy foundations—all while keeping therapy fun and functional! 💡💬

🎲 Headbandz is a simple, fun game that doubles as a powerful speech therapy tool!

Here’s how we use it ⬇️

✨ Vocabulary – describe & categorize words
✨ Question formulation – practice yes/no & wh- questions
✨ Reasoning – make inferences & smart guesses
✨ Social skills – turn-taking, flexible thinking
✨ Speech sounds – practice targets within play

💡 Bonus: Create your own themed cards (animals, school items, seasonal vocab) to keep kids motivated!

🐮🐰🐔 Farm Sensory Bin Fun!
In this early intervention session, we used our farm-themed sensory bin to support a variety of speech, language, and play goals — all through hands-on, engaging play! 🌾✨

Here’s what we targeted:
⭐ Imitating animal sounds (moo, baa, oink!)
⭐ Building vocabulary (animals, actions, descriptive words)
⭐ Turn-taking and joint attention
⭐ Following directions (e.g., “Find the pig!”)
⭐ Understanding spatial concepts (in, on, under)
⭐ Requesting and commenting during play
⭐ Pretend play and sequencing simple actions

This simple setup offers so much potential for language-rich, child-led learning—plus lots of fun and sensory exploration! 💬👐
