🎯 Awareness Series (1)
😣 "Irritable Bowel Syndrome"... It's not an act, it's real suffering!
What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?
IBS isn't an organic disease that shows up in lab tests or scans.
Instead, it's a disorder in how your intestines move.
This means your stomach might be sensitive to anything, and react with bloating, pain, or unexplained constipation and diarrhea!
What causes it?
There isn't one known cause, but some things can trigger or worsen it, such as:
* Psychological stress or tension
* Foods that irritate the stomach (fats, caffeine, spicy food)
* Sleep disturbances
* An inherently sensitive colon
* A family history of IBS
So, what are the symptoms?
* Constant bloating
* Cramps and abdominal pain
* Constipation or diarrhea (and they might alternate frequently)
* Feeling full after eating
* General fatigue and possibly headaches
And those around you don't always understand the extent of the pain, so you often hear, "Just eat normally! Don't make a big deal out of it!" 😞
Is it dangerous?
* No... But it can disrupt your work, sleep, and life... if you don't manage it.
What should we do? 👇
* Avoid foods that irritate you
* Like caffeine, legumes, fats, artificial sweeteners
* Regulate your eating habits
* Eat small amounts, in stages
* Drink plenty of water
* Engage in light exercise (even walking)
* Reduce stress, take deep breaths, relax your nerves
A phrase you must remember:
> "IBS doesn't show... but its pain is not minor!"
