January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month 💜

Some days, it’s the small moments that matter most:
A familiar song that brings a smile.
A gentle hand holding another.
A shared laugh over a memory that still feels close, even when words are hard to find.

At the Leamington Mennonite Home, many of our residents live with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Each day, we walk alongside them with patience, compassion, and respect, honouring who they are and the life stories they carry.

Alzheimer’s is a journey that touches not only those diagnosed, but also families, friends, and caregivers. This month, we pause to recognize the strength of our residents, the dedication of our care teams, and the love of families who entrust us with what matters most.

Awareness helps us see beyond the diagnosis, to the person, the moments of connection, and the importance of care rooted in dignity and understanding.

This January, we stand with all those affected by Alzheimer’s.

We’re grateful to share a special photo, one that truly captures the heart of the Leamington Mennonite Home.

At LMH, our 273 residents are at the centre of everything we do. Life is precious, and we are honoured to walk alongside each person we serve, ensuring every resident is loved, valued, and treated with dignity and compassion through each season of aging in place.

As we reflect on this moment, it holds even deeper meaning with the recent passing of Mary, who is pictured here with her husband Harry. This image reminds us of the beauty found in simple moments: a walk outdoors, time together, the changing seasons, and the importance of cherishing them while we can.

Guided by our Residents First vision, our faith-based commitment and strong sense of community shape how we care for one another each day. Leamington Mennonite Home is more than a place to live, it is a place of belonging, comfort, and trust, built through generations of care.

“Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.” Psalm 90:1

A Community of Care

The Leamington Mennonite Home & Apartments is a faith-centered, charitable, non-profit organization supported by eight Mennonite Brethren Churches in our community. Founded in 1964 in response to the growing needs of seniors, our community of care provides holistic care and support to seniors and the frail elderly. Our Home is the only not-for-profit Home in Southwestern Ontario.

We seek to provide the best possible individualized care to all of our residents. Our community of care enables seniors and the frail elderly to age in one retirement community that can respond to all their needs. This is a visionary model - our organization consists of the Long Term Care Home, Retirement Residence, Homeview and Pickwick Apartments, Gardens Condominiums, and Heritage Townhouses.
