Spicing up our morning movement the best way we know how. What a fun class of chair salsa with Amir! 🌶️💃✨
Proof that rhythm doesn’t retire.. and neither do our moves🕺🏻

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with the Art of Illusion magic show! 🎩✨

Residents shared plenty of smiles, laughter, and a few “how did he do that?” moments along the way. It was a fun and lighthearted way to spend time together and try something a little different.

Thank you to Brad Toulouse for bringing the magic to our community! 💙✨

We are truly grateful to Ricks Heart Foundation BC for making the Heart for Music program possible. Personalized music is enhancing dignity, emotional wellbeing, and connection for our residents in profound and meaningful ways.
This initiative supports our vision: Residents First - through faith-based commitment, compassion, and community and aligns with our Strategic Plan focus on Resident Well-being.

Neil, a lifelong musician who taught hundreds of students, was deeply moved while listening to his personalized playlist. He described the music as “beautiful,” and folk songs from his past brought him joy and emotional connection. During one visit, he sang along, reminisced about concerts he attended, and shared memories of playing some of the songs on his guitar. Music clearly feeds his soul. Here is Neil enjoying the Cat Stevens album.

Abe, who served for many years as a church choir conductor, has found deep comfort and joy in his personalized playlist. When his favourite choral pieces begin to play, he settles in and listens for extended periods, fully immersed in the music he loves. His favourite selection, The Battle Hymn of the Republic by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, brings an unmistakable spark of recognition and joy. With each new song, Abe’s face lights up, he is truly in his element; eyes closed, hands subtly moving, directing the choir in his mind just as he did for so many years.

Freda benefits greatly from personalized music as a calming and grounding presence in her day. During music sessions, Freda visibly relaxes, her expression softens, her body settles, and she becomes more present in the moment. At times she hums along, taps to the rhythm, or quietly mouths familiar lyrics, demonstrating recognition and comfort in the music she loves. Having access to personalized music has been monumental to Freda’s day-to-day enjoyment. It not only provides comfort and emotional regulation but also creates moments of peace, connection, and meaningful engagement that enhance her overall quality of life.

Funding from the Rick’s Heart Foundation National Program has been invaluable for the residents of Leamington Mennonite Home. Providing access to personalized music reflects our vision: Residents First - through faith-based commitment, compassion, and community. We rely on generous partners to help bring meaningful programs like this to life. Thank you for selecting LMH as one of the recipients across Canada and for making this very special program possible for the residents. We are witnessing firsthand the transformative effects highlighted in the documentary Alive Inside. The results have been remarkable. No two playlists are the same. Each one is thoughtfully curated using residents’ favourite songs, music that is familiar, meaningful, and reflective of their life experiences.
- Alexandria Fischer-Janisse, Director of Development at LMH

Thank you to Melissa Gaspard & Megan Klassen for helping launch the program. We look forward to expanding it throughout our Long-Term Care community, which 84 residents call home. PSWs, Activity Helpers, and nursing staff will continue integrating this special music program as:
• a meaningful recreational activity
• a tool to promote connection and communication
• a behavioural support resource
• a comfort and calming strategy

Thank you for your partnership in making this meaningful work possible, Ricks Heart Foundation BC 🎶🎧💗

Every day, our residents write the story of who we are.

It’s in the laughter shared over a game, the quiet moments of reflection, the creative projects, the friendships formed, and the helping hands extended to one another. These activities are more than pastimes, they are expressions of dignity, purpose, and belonging.

Our vision is simple: Residents First through faith-based commitment, we strive to create a community where every person is valued, every voice is heard, and care is delivered with compassion and respect.

Through meaningful connection, spiritual support, and attentive care, we walk alongside our residents, honouring their journeys, celebrating their strengths, and nurturing a place they can truly call home.

Making the most of this winter weather 🥶❄️
On one of our snowiest days, we turned the fresh snowfall into sweet snow sundaes with chocolate drizzle, a big hit with our retirement residents!
LTC residents got creative with paper snowmen, and a few shoppers enjoyed a Walmart outing where they found cheerful Valentine's displays. Winter fun is always better together 💙

A Community of Care

The Leamington Mennonite Home & Apartments is a faith-centered, charitable, non-profit organization supported by eight Mennonite Brethren Churches in our community. Founded in 1964 in response to the growing needs of seniors, our community of care provides holistic care and support to seniors and the frail elderly. Our Home is the only not-for-profit Home in Southwestern Ontario.

We seek to provide the best possible individualized care to all of our residents. Our community of care enables seniors and the frail elderly to age in one retirement community that can respond to all their needs. This is a visionary model - our organization consists of the Long Term Care Home, Retirement Residence, Homeview and Pickwick Apartments, Gardens Condominiums, and Heritage Townhouses.
