Today is “Look Up at the Sky” Day (or April 14, depending on who you ask).

But really—every day is a good day to pause and look up at the sky. In my recent posts I’ve been talking about stress and the idea that we all have a stress capacity—a limit to how much pressure our systems can comfortably carry. Small pauses can help us recover from that pressure.

Taking a moment to shift your gaze upward and step out of the rush of the day can help regulate your nervous system and reduce stress. Try it a few times throughout your day, or end the evening with a bit of stargazing. Notice what happens when you give yourself this small pause. Even a tiny shift in attention can help lighten the load we’re carrying.

Acceptance is a powerful way to clear the mental clutter. I often share with clients that acceptance doesn’t mean we’re okay with what happened. It means letting go of the “woulda, shoulda, coulda” thoughts that keep us stuck.

Like the quote says, we can’t stop the waves—but we can learn to ride them. We can allow our thoughts to come and go without getting pulled under by them.
