Does your child or teen struggle to fall asleep because their mind starts to race at bedtime? You’re not alone — it’s often the first quiet moment our brains have to process the day, and that’s when worries can show up.

If bedtime anxiety has become a pattern, there are ways to help your child calm their mind and rest easier. I share a few tips in this video, and encourage you to do some gentle “detective work” — notice what thoughts come up and what bedtime routines help them unwind.

You don’t have to navigate this alone.

As parents, we juggle a million things every day—including the big question: how do we best support our kids?
Being intentional about what belongs in the “adult world” versus the “kid world” is one simple but powerful way to do this. It helps keep children out of the middle -- so they are not messengers and not being given adult information that isn’t theirs to carry.

Why? Because your child loves you both and just wants to make you happy. Putting them in the middle asks them to handle something that’s not theirs—and that can feel heavy.
Instead, by holding this boundary, we model healthy advocacy skills. Kids learn it’s okay to say: “That’s not for me to talk about.”
A small shift for us can mean a world of difference for them. 💖

Happy weekend and start of the school year! I will be presenting on Anxiety September 25th 2025 from 630-8pm at Family Centre (downtown location). This free workshop reguires registration so click the link below or give Family Centre a call to sign up and save your spot! Family Centre in Lethbridge is also offering childcare by donation.

I am excited to be heading back to my roots where I started my professional journey as a therapist at Family Centre. Throughout my years I facilitated a number of programs including Worry Dragons, PACES (for kids navigating separation and divorce), and Supporting Father Involvement to name a few. Sharing tools and strategies with families is a passion of mine and this presentation will help provide resources on anxiety for parents who are supporting someone with anxiety or for individuals who have anxiety themselves. You don’t have to do this alone.

Counselling

Do you struggle with uncertainty about what to do in your relationships, with your kids, with your thoughts, identifying strengths and successes? Do you need a different/fresh perspective that it outside of your circle? Or maybe you are looking for some new tools to apply to yourself, your kids or your relationship?

I strive to assist people to celebrate their strengths, shift their perspective, identify steps to take to achieve those goals, and introduce new tools to add to their coping tool box. Drawing from strength based, solution focused, narrative therapy, and systems theory, I work together with clients to acknowledge their success and move forward towards their goals and best future selves.

Although not everything will feel and seem “fixed” after counselling, clients walk away with new perspectives, new tools, new ideas, positive changes for themselves and their relationships. Clients also have the confidence to continue to make lasting changes in their lives. By feeling better, taking back control and learning what we can control, having new tools, clients feel empowered.
