A little resource share for this lovely Monday. If you have a child/teen with ADHD that has recently been diagnosed or if you are looking for ways to build up your kiddos strengths Dr. Liz Angoff has some fabulous resources on her page and loads of videos on her Instagram.
One tool I particularly love and share within my work is her analogy related to strengths and things to work on with highways and under construction skills.
She has free handouts and resources for parents to help walk through their kiddos diagnosis and if you are a book lover she has a few books to assist parents to walk through diagnosis in a strength based way with your kiddo.
Check out the links below for her website and Instagram to follow!

Just a little reminder to speak to the heart (and emotions) first before we move to the brain with solutions, problem solving, and teaching moments. Shout out to Brad Moser Registered Psychologist Inc. for sharing this beautiful image from socialworkerstoolbox.com

As a parent, I’ve been there. Our kids are having a tantrum, not listening, and not doing what we want. They’re feeling it in their heart. We try to fix it by using our heads: reason with them, take them into time out, or even yelling at them and forcing them to do what we want, etc.

A better strategy is to first connect with our kids and their feelings, rather than trying to correct their behaviors or lecture them. This infographic, by Social Workers Toolbox outlines how to do this.

There is no such thing as a perfect parent. Period. We ALL make mistakes. So what can we do about it? Dr Becky Kennedy speaks about repair and shares a few great points about repairing with our kids, our partners, and even our younger selves. The healing of a repair done in this way can send a wave of relief for a person (even yourself) AND when we repair with our kids when we have done something it allows them to know that they are not the reason why mom yelled (for example), they don't need to blame themselves, AND it shows that it is okay to make a mistake. Mistakes are how we learn.

Here is an example of repair:
1. I'm sorry that I yelled (what you did)
2. that must have been scary/ name the feeling (validation of what that may have been like for them)
3. Mom is going to keep working on being more patient and taking a break if I start to get overwhelmed (what you are going to work on)
