J.D. is another S.A.M. alumni. Her sobriety date is, May 28, 2019. This is what she had to say about her time at S.A.M. "I have so many things I am grateful for and feel blessed that they were a huge part of my foundation in rebuilding myself. They gave me the guidance, counselling, coaching and tools for navigating life's struggles big or small. They gave me the opportunity to feel heard which led to a safe space to be honest and let go of the shame from my past." Congratulations J on your achievement, we are so proud of you!

Sam Dill was a member of our Board of Directors from 2004-2010. She decided to join because she believed in our Philosophy of Treatment that was the foundation of recovery. She shared that it felt respectful, supportive and encouraging. EVERYONE at S.A.M was part of the client's journey. She shared a memory of an interaction between Shirley the cook and a new resident, and memories of Sam the dog (yes, S.A.M. had a house dog named Sam). She shared a memory of an outing to Waterton Lakes National Park, "I watched while several of the clients sat quietly by the water, and others spent time playing like kids for the 1st time~ skipping rocks, sitting and talking or simply being quiet in such a beautiful place. It brought tears to my eyes watching this very meaningful time..It was amazing as well as ingenuous organizing such an experience ~even our spouses were welcome." Thank you Sam for being a part of our organization, and sharing your memories with us!

In 2006 S.A.M. purchased a duplex to be used as yearlong housing for residents who have finished our 90-day program. The duplex can accommodate 8 residents, both male and female. The duplex offers our residents the opportunity to continue to build the skills of living a sober life with more responsibility like budgeting and paying bills.

T.E. is one of our alumni, and he has two sobriety dates: I've been sober off alcohol for 19 years and I've been clean off drugs since 2017. He shares that S.A.M. has been a giant part of my life. Being at S.A.M. taught me how to live again and navigate everyday choices and decisions. They helped me seek out my goals in life and the staff supported me 100 percent. Congratulations T on your recovery journey! We are so proud of you!

Did you know, that in 1985 Southern Alcare Society and Industries became founding members of the Lethbridge Community Bingo Association. That means that we've volunteered for over 1700 bingo's (and counting)!!! The money we receive helps fund social activities with the residents, and they can add it to their resumes.

Yvette Stolk was one of our amazing staff members, and says that Southern Alcare Manor was truly the best! She shared memories of some of the activities that she was a part of including the Halloween parties and Survivor Day (iykyk). She said it was so fantastic to see the residents having a great deal of fun while working on living a sober life. The time and dedication is second to none.
Thank you Yvette for being a part of our team, and sharing your memories with us!
