Meet Dr. Haitsma

"Chiropractic is part of the healthy lifestyle puzzle; we don’t have all the answers but have a very important role to play." When he was a university student, Dr. Haitsma was involved in a car accident that resulted in him having horrible headaches. “They hurt so much. I was told by a doctor that I had a concussion but was just told to put ice on my head and take pills.”

Dr. Ha

itsma followed the doctor’s orders but still had raging headaches. Then one night, he met a chiropractor at his neighbor’s barbecue. “I told him my story and he said, ‘why don’t you come see me; maybe I can help you.'”

Though Dr. Haitsma didn’t know about chiropractic, he did know that what he was doing wasn’t helping that much. “The doctor that helped me was a classic chiropractor. He told me what he was doing and why and it made a lot of sense to me. That experience changed my life and I decided to become a chiropractor.”

When he’s not at the practice, Dr. Haitsma loves gardening and tending his flowers. An avid hiker and fly fisherman, he and his wife Veronica enjoy exploring the trails and rivers of Southwest Alberta. Their daughter and son-in-law live in New York City and they have another son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren that live nearby so they enjoy getting together with them often.

Construction workers and tradespeople face unique physical demands that most office-based advice does not address. Heavy lifting, sustained overhead work, and repetitive motions in awkward positions all place specific stresses on the spine and surrounding muscles. If your livelihood depends on your body performing well day after day, regular chiropractic care is not a luxury - it is essential maintenance.

Taking movement breaks every 30 minutes, even if it is just standing and walking for 60 seconds, can prevent the muscle fatigue and joint stiffness that build up from prolonged sitting. Your body was designed for frequent position changes, and even brief interruptions to static posture make a measurable difference in how you feel by the end of the day.

Online reviews are often the first thing people read when they are deciding whether to book an appointment, especially if they have never been to a chiropractor before. A few honest words about your experience could be what helps someone take that first step toward feeling better. If our care has made a difference for you, we would love to hear from you.

Spinal decompression therapy uses gentle traction to create negative pressure within spinal discs, which can help retract herniated material and increase blood flow to damaged areas. The treatment is completely passive and many patients find it surprisingly relaxing. For people dealing with disc-related pain that has not responded well to other approaches, decompression can offer genuine relief.

Healing is not a straight line, and that is completely normal. Some days will feel stronger than others, and setbacks do not erase the progress you have already made. What matters most is staying consistent with the habits and care that support your body, even when motivation wavers. Every visit builds on the last.

The best endorsement we receive is when a patient trusts us enough to send someone they care about our way. When you have experienced genuine improvement in how your body feels and functions, sharing that with a friend or family member who is struggling could be exactly the nudge they need to seek care. Let's help them get to a better place too.

Parents of young children spend a surprising amount of time in postures that load the spine unevenly, carrying a child on one hip, leaning over a low change table, or lifting from awkward angles dozens of times a day. Over time, these repeated asymmetric loads can create real imbalances. If you are in this season of life, it is worth having your spine checked, not just when something hurts.

Poor sleep and spinal discomfort have a well-documented two-way relationship. Discomfort can make it harder to fall and stay asleep, and consistently poor sleep reduces the body's ability to repair soft tissue overnight. Addressing spinal health is sometimes one of the most effective things a person can do to improve the quality of their rest, which then supports nearly every other aspect of health.

Most people are surprised to learn that the discs between your vertebrae have no direct blood supply. They get their nutrients almost entirely through movement, a process called imbibition, where compression and decompression during activity essentially pumps fluid in and out of the disc. This is one of the reasons that staying mobile, and keeping the spine moving correctly, matters so much for long-term disc health.
