Beautiful and fierce. Today, on Trans Day of Remembrance, we expressly condemn the UCP's use of the NWC to further strip away the rights of Alberta's trans youth to receive life saving medical care. No matter what a government does--it cannot erase transness from our world. Trans people will continue to exist, live, thrive, and outlast every moment of hate and bigotry.

It’s , a day where we mourn and honor the people who have been murdered just for being TGI. Today is also a day where we recognize that, despite threats of violence and discrimination, the trans community still continues to thrive. Trans individuals everywhere are living their fullest, authentically.

As The National Center for LGBTQ Rights puts it:
not only means Trans Day of Remembrance/ Día Trans del Recuerdo, it also means:
Trans Day of Resilience || Día Trans del Resiliencia
Trans Day of Realness || Día Trans del Realidad
Trans Day of Revolution || Día Trans del Revolución

On the right is a fem with red hair, a black shirt that reads, ‘end trans detention,’ and a gray skirt wrapped in a le***an pride flag. In the background there are cempasúchil flowers in honor of those lost. Text reads, ‘Trans Day of Remembrance, Trans Day of Realness, Trans Day of Revolution!’

Alberta uses Notwithstanding Clause to perpetuate unprecedented attack on Trans Rights

Today, the Government of Alberta has introduced Bill 9 which uses the notwithstanding clause to restrict the rights of Two-Spirit, trans & gender diverse people in the province. This legislation is brought days ahead of Trans Day of Remembrance - a day meant to honour the lives lost to anti-trans violence.

Doing so is not only cruel but a direct form of institutional violence against trans communities. This law reaches into nearly every part of a young person’s life and restricts their access to health care, ability to learn, and right to participate in their communities. This is not theoretically or ideological - Behind every policy are real young people and families who’s rights, sense of belonging and very safety are being eroded by our very government.

Alberta has engaged in gross government overreach into the private lives of its citizens and has now taken the step of limiting the courts’ ability to hold it to account for its violations of the Charter. All Albertans and all Canadians should be outraged. Everyone deserves the ability to access health care, participate in sports and their communities, and live their life authentically.

Awesome offering!
