Summer can bring a different kind of pressure for new moms.

☀︎ Pressure to be out and about
☀︎ Pressure to attend all the family and friend events
☀︎ Pressure to enjoy “every moment” and keep up with the sunny hustle

But the truth is — postpartum doesn’t take a vacation.
Your needs for rest, regulation, and support are still valid… even in July.

So here’s your gentle reminder:
It’s okay if your version of summer looks like staying home, saying no, or choosing shade and stillness over stimulation.

Swipe through for 4 ways to support your mental health during this season — and know that slow is still strong.

You’re doing beautifully. ♥

✨ Did you know Occupational Therapists are one of only five professions in Alberta qualified to provide mental health assessment and treatment?

At New Heights, we specialize in supporting families through all the stages of parenthood - from pregnancy and postpartum, to parenting a child with feeding or neurodevelopmental challenges, all the way through to perimenopause and retirement. OT support is whole-person support: practical, physical, emotional, and rooted in compassion.

We help with internal challenges like mood, stress, pain, sleep, energy levels, and nervous system regulation — as well as external ones like relationships, daily functioning, and balancing care-giving with self-care. That might mean building sustainable routines, modifying your environment, using tools like baby slings or visual plans, or letting go of outdated expectations around motherhood.

✨ Your mental health matters, and you don’t have to do this alone.

🏡 Home visits are a great option if you’re looking for support in managing daily life with a newborn or adjusting after adding another child to your family.

🌿 Walking sessions are perfect if you feel best when moving your body and getting outdoors. The grounding benefits of nature and rhythmical movement can be incredibly calming for overwhelmed parents.

💻 Virtual sessions are ideal if you live out of town/province or simply don’t have the energy to pack up your children for an in-office visit.

📩 Reach out if you’re curious how OT might fit into your healing or growth journey.

To the mom who feels like she’s running on fumes…

This is your reminder:
🤍 You don’t have to do it all.
🤍 You’re allowed to rest.
🤍 You’re doing better than you think.

Some days are heavier than others — and that doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human. It means you care. It means you’re showing up, even when it’s hard.
If your mood or worrisome thoughts are affecting your ability to do the things you want to do in a day, how you feel about yourself, and/or your ability to connect with those you love, it is time to prioritize your needs, mama!

If you are the 1-2 in 4 moms that are struggling with your mental health, please know that you are so worth the support! You were never meant to do it alone.

They tell you to "sleep when the baby sleeps" — but what about the nights when your body is exhausted, and your mind just. won't. turn. off? 💤🥱

Postpartum insomnia is real, and it’s more common than you think. Between hormonal shifts, new routines, and that constant "mom alertness," sometimes true rest feels impossible — even when you're beyond tired.

Here are a few gentle tips to help:
🌙 Make your sleep space cozy (dim lights, cool air, soft textures) and incorporate a consistent bedtime routine
🌙 Try a brain dump — write out those racing thoughts before bed
🌙 Practice 4-7-8 breathing and progressive muscle relaxation to calm your nervous system
🌙 Remember: Resting quietly still supports your recovery (even if sleep doesn’t come right away)
🌙 Get some sunshine in the morning to regulate your circadian rhythm, whether through a short walk or sitting by a bright window!

You’re not alone in this.

Your need for rest matters — and support is here when you need it. 🤍

Motherhood changes your body, your energy, your everything.
And real postpartum movement isn’t about “getting your body back” — it’s about reconnecting with yourself, one breath at a time. ❁

Here’s your permission slip to move for joy, not for pressure:

✺ Stretch wherever you are (yes, even with a baby on your lap!)
✺ Take a walk for your mind, not your step count
✺ Dance it out in the kitchen — messy hair, comfy clothes, no rules
✺ Breathe deep and thank your body for carrying you through this
chapter
✺ Rest when that’s what movement looks like today

Movement can be small. It can be slow. It can be whatever feels good to you.

You’re already enough — exactly as you are. 🤍

🌸 To all the incredible moms — today we celebrate you. 🌸

Your strength is found not just in the big milestones, but in the tiny, tender moments that often go unseen.

This Mother's Day, we honor the steady love, the whispered encouragements, the late nights, the early mornings, and everything in between.

You are the heart of your family — and you are doing an amazing job. 💛

Happy Mother’s Day 💐

🤯Feeling stressed out and overstimulated? Burnt out? Worried about our world? I feel it too.
🧠Need a soothing balm for your nervous system?

Yin and yoga nidra may be the answer.

What's really happening in a yin yoga or yoga nidra class?

🧘‍♀️Yin yoga works deeply into the connective tissues, fascia, ligaments and joints through poses held for 3-5 minutes creating a softening and relaxation throughout the body and mind.

😴Yoga Nidra "yogic sleep" is performed lying down in the most comfortable position possible and entering a state of deep mind and body relaxation through the guidance of my voice and the container created, leading you to connect back with your innermost self. This self-awareness and connection to self is the foundation of good mental health.

🗣Time will be available at the end for journaling and connection.

☺️These practices combined together are the ultimate in self-care! Treat your body and mind to some much needed love.

Everyone is welcome! If you have an injury or decreased mobility just let me know and modifications will be offered. If you have them please bring a yoga mat, pillow, eye cover (if you'd like), a journal or paper and pen, water or other beverage, and a light blanket.

Join us March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 from 7-8:15 p.m. Your investment in your health is $125. There are only 10 spots. Call Naturistas at 403-380-4551 to register. Dm me for more info. Please share with a friend or family member who may benefit from or enjoy a class like this!

I am passionate about women being at their best mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually! If you are tired of feeling overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted, unsatisfied, that you are “not enough”, or scared to take that leap of faith, I would be thrilled to guide you along your path to greater self-love, peacefulness, joy and purpose! I have been there and I have pulled myself out with a lot of help. I don’t want you to continue running on the hamster wheel of life “getting it all done”; I want you to live a life designed for you!

It all starts with looking inside and re-connecting back with ourselves, getting quiet and listening to the quiet messages of our heart... the ones that have always been there but we’ve been too busy to pay attention to them.

Individual, group, and online sessions are available focusing on in-depth self-awareness exercises, mindfulness principles, meditation techniques, body relaxation practices, cognitive behavioral methods, new healthy habit and thinking practices, brain and the science of anxiety education, gratitude practices. I want this for you! Take it off pause, and press play on your life!
