Great tips from Cindy on postpartum self-care ❤️ read below!

Becoming a mom is the biggest physical, psychological, social and cognitive change you will ever go through in your life! It is important to prepare for it!

I'm not sure about you but the transition into motherhood threw me for a loop?! I was prepared for the birth, had a birth plan (not that any of it was followed), and had taken ALL the classes and read all the books.

But no one talked about the brain and psychological changes that would occur once baby came and how so little sleep would affect me. No one talked about the loss of freedom, change in identity, yearning for time alone. No one talked about the sensory overload from the crying, feeling touched out. Because no one talked about it, I thought I was failing.

It is SO important to talk about our experiences, to normalize how difficult this transition can be because of all the changes that are occurring. It doesn't mean that we would change anything. My children are my greatest blessings in the entire world! But I just wish the hard parts had been talked about prenatally or postnatally to normalize them. If this were the case I would've felt more comfortable talking about it, rather than keeping them a secret. As Brene Brown states, "The only way to resolve shame it to talk about it."

This is why it is SO important to me to create a safe space in my Mom and Baby Wellness group and my 1:1 therapy to talk about the hard parts so that women can process it and move on and know that they are not flawed for feeling this way.

After 2 years of dreaming about it, I have finally created what I feel will TRULY make a difference in the way women transition into motherhood. Armed with the knowledge, self-awareness, and mindset to EASE into this period of life. To view it as a short season of receiving, of being, not of doing and performing. Drawing from the wisdom of other cultures in which the new mom is cared for as much as the baby.

Join us for Prep for Postpartum: A Season of Receiving and Being on June 5th from 3-6 p.m. It will be held online so please share with any of your friends who live in Alberta or across Canada. Comment "register" to be sent the link.
