When patient's come in for their cleanings they often ask us which kind of toothbrush is best for their mouth?
There are a lot of options but some of the things to look when deciding are the type of brush, bristles and size.
If you struggle with dexterity, then an electric toothbrush could be best to help you reach all areas that you might not be able to with a manual brush. You want to make sure you select a brush with soft or extra soft bristles. Anything more than that will be too abrasive on your enamel and gums and can cause damage. You also want to select a brush that is not too bulky and fits in your mouth so you can properly clean all areas of your mouth.
Ask us at your next appointment they type of brush we recommend for you.

We have a lot of patients ask us about the benefits of using a water flosser. A water flosser is a great addition for your gum health and hygiene.
A water flosser can flush bacteria out your gums if you have deep pockets and help clean around bridges and implants that are tougher to floss. This is not a replacement for string floss but an addition so it is recommended to floss daily but you will definitely notices a difference in your gums!
If you are interested in a water flosser we have them available at the office for only $55!

Our final topic for National Oral Health month is healthy eating. Proper food choices can play a big part in the health of your mouth. Crunchy vegetables like carrots and celery can actually as a natural toothbrush removing plaque and stimulating saliva production. And foods high in calcium and phosphorus like leafy greens, nuts and dairy also contribute to strong enamel. And of course make sure to limit high sugar foods and drinks to prevent decay.

This week's topic for National Oral Health Month is alignment. Having your teeth properly aligned is more than just aesthetics.
If teeth are not properly aligned, over time you can wear your teeth down leading to damage that could result in pain, tooth loss or jaw issues. Properly aligned teeth are also easier to keep clean to prevent plaque and tartar build up, decay and gum disease.
If you are concerned about the alignment of your teeth, call our office to book in for a free Invisalign assessment.

April is National Oral Health Month so each week we are focusing on different areas on how to keep your mouth healthy. This week we are discussing screening.

We recommend seeing Dr. Chuck for a yearly checkup with x-rays to assess your entire mouth. During a checkup, Dr. Chuck is looking for way more that just cavities, he is looking for signs other health problems like gum disease, cancer, diabetes, jaw problems and dental development in kids.

A yearly checkup is the best way to detect issues early on but if you notice any changes in your mouth it is best to see us right away! Call us to see if you are due for an appointment!

April is National Oral Health Month. Each week we will be focusing on different topics of oral health. Since April 4 to 10 is also National Dental Hygienist week, this week's topic will be hygiene!

Dental hygiene is the biggest way you can contribute to your oral health. Making sure that your mouth is consistently clean of plaque and bacteria is important to prevent tartar build up, decay, gum disease and bad breath. Make sure you floss, brush and use a tongue scraper twice a day to keep your mouth as clean as possible!

And don't forget to book a professional cleaning twice a year so we can help you with your hygiene and screen your mouth for other possible conditions!
