With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of Linden Mackey, a cherished member of our community. Linden was a constant, friendly presence in our downtown, and his kindness, compassion, and warmth touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He operated his businesses with these same qualities, supporting so many of us in our most difficult times.

Linden’s contributions to our community have been immeasurable, and his absence will be deeply felt. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his own family, the Mackey Funeral Home Inc., Stoddart's Funeral Home and Celebrations Lindsay family, Lindsay Dance Studio family and all who were impacted by this wonderful man.

🚨 Waste Collection Clarification:

In our evening Storm Update on April 2, we mistakenly asked you to hold your recycling. Please disregard that.

Waste and recycling collection is happening as usual with the exception of roads missed due to closures, storm damage, etc. If your waste is missed, next week you'll have a double garbage collection week. If your paper/fibre recycling is missed, please bring it in and hold it until your next fibre/recycling pick-up during the week of April 14.

📢 Storm Update for Kawartha Lakes – Morning of April 2, 2025
The City of Kawartha Lakes Emergency Operations Centre met this morning to assess storm recovery progress. Below is a full update on priorities, openings, closures, and supports available to residents.

🔌 Key Priorities

Hydro One Restoration: Hydro One power restoration continues to be the number one priority for health and safety of residents. Approximately half of the City is without power. The City is in close and direct contact with Hydro One to address high priority infrastructure such as cell towers for 9-1-1, community centres for warming rooms, water and wastewater plants, and gas/groceries for communities without power. Hydro One is targeting to restore power in most urban centres by the end of the week, rural areas could be longer.

Freezing Rain Alert: Significant rain and freezing conditions expected later today into tomorrow. Prepare for potential flooding.

⚠️ Storm Update – March 31, Evening
The City of Kawartha Lakes has declared a State of Emergency in response to the extended power outages caused by the ice storm and escalating impacts across the municipality:
❄️ Widespread power outages
🌳 Downed trees and hydro lines
🚧 Hazardous road conditions
📡 Disruptions to phone, internet, and email services
Mayor Elmslie shared:
“Hydro One has indicated that some areas may remain without power through the week. We’ve opened warming centres, waived landfill fees for storm debris, and will continue to support residents through this next phase.Our Emergency Operations Centre is working closely with the Province and neighbouring communities to respond and redeploy resources where needed. Thank you to everyone checking in on neighbours, staying patient, and supporting one another. A huge thank-you to all the frontline crews and responders working around the clock."

🔌 Power restoration is underway — parts of Lindsay and Fenelon Falls are back online, but full restoration may take several days. Hydro One is working around the clock, and we are doing everything we can to support these efforts. Please avoid unnecessary travel to stay safe and allow crews to continue clearing roads and restoring power.

🌧️ Storm Update – March 31, 11am
Kawartha Lakes
The freezing rain storm has passed, but many parts of the municipality are still dealing with the aftermath — especially power outages. Our Emergency Operations Centre met this morning to reassess. Cleanup is underway and Hydro One crews are working hard to get everyone back online, but full restoration may take a few days. 💡

🛣️ Roads:
The Significant Weather Event Declaration is still in effect. Downed power lines are creating hazards — please respect road barricades and avoid unnecessary travel.

⚠️ Treat all intersections as 4-way stops – many traffic lights are out.

Road crews from multiple departments are working hard to clear trees and debris. You don't need to report trees on roads — we’re on it!

🚌 Lindsay Transit:
Service has resumed.

🚛 Landfills:
• Lindsay Landfill: Open 8am–5pm
• Somerville Landfill: Open 11am–5pm
🌿 Yard waste and storm debris accepted free of charge during regular landfill hours until further notice.

🏛️ City Offices:
All offices are closed except City Hall (26 Francis St.), open 8:30am–4:30pm.

The Lindsay Service Centre located at City Hall is open to the public for in-person service. All other service centres are currently closed.

All facilities and programs are cancelled.
