Thankful Thursday: A Heartfelt Thanks đź’›

On this Thankful Thursday, our hearts are overflowing with gratitude. To each and every person who took the time to drop off food and essential household items at our emergency shelter—thank you.

We give our heartfelt thanks to:

Ziggy's Fish & Chips for donating a huge hot lunch donation: 3 roasting pans of chicken legs, 3 roasting pans of roasted potatoes and large pot of gravy that was served for this past Saturday’s dinner!

Royal Canadian Legion Lindsay Branch 67 for donating sandwiches, fruits, and veggies perfect for lunch!

Mackey Funeral Home Inc. for donating sandwiches, cheese, veggies, pickles, and olives

Paul Orchard for donating hotdogs

Kathy Tromans for donating 6 hand creams, 4 packs or razors, 6 Old Spice body washes, 6 Dove body sprays for men, 6 deodorants for women , 6 shampoos, 6 conditioners, 6 lotions, 5 cans of diced tomatoes, 2 mugs, and 5 boxes of crackers. We are really low on personal care items so this donation was greatly appreciated!

Your generosity is more than a donation. It’s a lifeline. It brings comfort, dignity, and hope to those navigating incredibly difficult times. Because of you, our community feels a little more connected, a little more cared for, and a lot more loved.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.💕

Do You Know the Difference?

Although we’ll never correct you if you mix them up, there’s an important difference between a hearse and Hearst.

A hearse—traditionally known as a funeral coach—is a vehicle used to transport your loved one from the place of death to the cemetery, crematorium, church, or celebration of life.

Hearst, on the other hand, is a town in Ontario. While it’s a fun coincidence that the two sound the same, they’re definitely not interchangeable!

Meet Maddy!

Maddy grew up in the beautiful communities of Bobcaygeon and Peterborough, Ontario. She graduated from Crestwood Secondary School, where a co-op placement at Ashburnham Funeral Home first sparked her passion for the funeral service profession.

She is currently pursuing her Funeral Service Education at Humber College and recently began her internship with Mackey Funeral Home. Through this hands-on experience, Maddy is gaining valuable knowledge and building meaningful connections as she works toward her goal of becoming a licensed funeral director by 2026.

Compassionate and dedicated, Maddy is already excelling in her role—meeting with families, supporting them through the planning process, and embracing every opportunity to learn and grow.

We are excited to welcome Maddy to our team and look forward to supporting her as she continues her journey toward becoming a Class 1 Licensed Funeral Director.

Do you know the difference?

Although we’ll never correct you if you mix them up, there is an important difference between an urn and a vase.

An urn is a closed vessel specifically designed to hold human cremated remains. It is sealed from the environment to ensure the ashes are stored safely and securely.

A vase, on the other hand, is an open-topped decorative container, often used to hold flowers or other items.

That said, we love the idea of personalization and welcome families to bring in meaningful receptacles for memorialization. We simply want to ensure that cremated remains are stored properly and treated with the utmost care.

Mackey’s Through the Years
From our beginning on Kent Street to our newly refreshed space on Peel Street, our look may have changed, but our values remain the same — over a century of community, and a century of caring.

05/26/2025

We deeply appreciate the outpouring of love and support following the passing of Linden Mackey. From our friends, family, community, and colleagues - your kindness has brought comfort to all of us at Mackey Funeral Home, Stoddart Funeral Home, Jardine Funeral Home, and Celebrations Lindsay during this incredibly difficult time.

Linden was the heart of our funeral homes, and his legacy of compassion, integrity, and service will live on. We want to reassure our community that all operations; including current services and prearranged plans—will continue without change.

Though our hearts are heavy, under the leadership of our President Alison Steinsky and our devoted team, we are committed to carrying forward the values Linden and the Mackey family instilled in us all. We will continue to serve you with the same care, respect, and dedication that he so gracefully embodied.

Thank you for standing with us as we honour his memory and continue his life’s work.
