🍁Blessed Mabon!!🍁
{Pronounced mah-bon or may-bon}
• It can be celebrated from September 21-29. It is Sept 22 this year)
Known as the Pagan Thanksgiving, Mabon marks the Autumn Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, when day and night are equal, making it a time of balance, equality and harmony.
In ancient times, Mabon was a celebration of the second harvest (Lughnasadh/Lammas in August was the first) when farmers gathered hearty foods like gourds, pumpkins, grapes and apples.
The name Mabon comes from the Welsh God, who was the son of the Earth Mother Goddess. However, there is evidence that the name was adopted in the 1970s, and the holiday was not originally a Celtic celebration, although most ancient cultures had some sort of harvest celebration around the Autumn Equinox.
Mabon celebrations today are a time to give thanks to Mother Earth for the abundance she provides - both literally and spiritually. It’s also a good time to reflect on the Wheel of the Year, looking back on your successes as well as the things that didn’t manifest, and letting go of the things that did not serve you during the past twelve months.
