To The Core Pilates and Nutrition is a locally owned studio that turns 17 this year!

Located just west of the downtown core we are massive supporters of our local charities as well as huge advocates for Discover Lloydminster and Think Lloyd First programs. Owned and operated by Donna Schellenberg, we began as a small family oriented facility which has grown with her own family over the years. We treat our clients as a part of our family and believe everyone that steps through our

doors deserves the absolute best of what we have to offer. Our purpose has always been to awaken a life of limitless joy in others. Although that may sound strange to some, our clients have overcome massive obstacles that impacted every area of their lives. When you're in pain it's tough to enjoy life. It's difficult to move well, do the activities you love with the people you love the most. Often pain impacts incomes and jobs. Most often it impacts our relationships, our sense of self worth and our confidence. Finding joy in moving again gives people back their freedom and a new outlook for the future. We are proud to help people do just that. At To the Core Pilates & Nutrition it is our mission to encourage lifestyle choices that will improve health over the long term and to improve the quality of life of every client. We offer Therapeutic Pilates and specialize in pre and post natal health as well as post rehab care for hip and knee replacements as well as spinal issues such as scoliosis or disc herniations. To the Core also offers personalized Nutrition Coaching. We work with you to develop smart, effective eating choices to meet your fitness and health goals. Together, we will develop and analyze your habits, dietary needs, and track your progress with the support and resources you need. We believe in creating healthy and sustainable habits that last a lifetime and creating realistic goals and expectations for ourselves. No quick fixes or "no pain, no gain" workouts to be found here. We teach our clients to be proactive about their health, listen to their own bodies and to become advocates for their own health and wellness.

Vulnerability is Hard—But It’s Necessary

Years ago, a friend told me I was hard to get to know. I didn’t let people in. That truth hurt—and we’re no longer friends—but it stuck with me.

Trauma, especially physical pain, makes vulnerability feel impossible. And when you finally ask for help but feel dismissed, it gets even harder. I’ve heard countless stories of women whose pain was minimized or brushed off with band-aid solutions. When you feel rushed out the door by healthcare providers you start to internalize that you're healing and health isn't a priority.

The goal of a regular Pilates practice, as stated by Joseph Pilates, is, “to be in control of your body and not at its mercy.”

When we move through life feeling that our bodies are holding us hostage, our minds begin processing all experiences and external sensations accordingly. Whether because of chronic pain or impacted mobility, a blocked body nurtures a blocked mind.

Luckily, the reverse is also true. Once you begin to connect with your body through responsible movement, you begin to feel “in charge” of your body as opposed to existing separately from your physical self. An open, strong body nurtures an open, strong mind!

As you begin to feel released from the grasp of dysfunction and chronic pain, you inevitably feel an increase in overall happiness. This state of mind spills over into every area of life, even outside of the studio.

When Help Hurts — My Chronic Pain & Marriage Story

I adore my husband. His love language is acts of service, and during the worst of my chronic pain, he showed up in all the ways he knew how—taking the kids to activities, handling chores, letting me rest.

But instead of feeling supported, I felt left out and inadequate. It wasn’t him—it was me. I hadn’t been speaking up. I wasn’t setting boundaries. I was focused on all the things I couldn’t do. The most well meaning support can feel like failure when you don't have good boundaries in place or are not working to take an active role in your healing.

Eventually, I hired a coach to help me unpack those mental blocks and past traumas. I realized fear of reinjury had made my body—and my mindset—rigid. Through movement, mindset work, and purpose, I finally started to heal.

You Deserve to Heal—From the Inside Out

When I was 19, I was diagnosed with endometriosis and told I’d likely never have children. I was dealing with daily and constant pain. Doctors suggested a hysterectomy and strong birth control to suppress my cycles until surgery.

I said no.

That decision led me on a long, difficult journey of healing. I made painful choices, battled depression, and felt like my body had failed me. After two surgeries, I had my first son—and everything began to change. I found people who truly understood healing. I sought out natural solutions, learned more, and kept learning. And most importantly, I got a second opinion.

Now I have three children. If I had listened to that first diagnosis, my life would look nothing like it does today. That experience shaped my mindset: “What can I do?” That question has since become the foundation for how I help others heal from pain and trauma.

Thinking about joining To the Core? Here is what you can expect:

All our clients begin with a consultation. This is a one-on-one session where we perform a postural analysis and movement screening to establish a baseline and gain a better understanding of any underlying health issues. We spend time discussing goals and nutrition to establish a program suitable for each individual.

After your consultation, we will recommend either a class or private/semiprivate sessions and/or nutrition coaching on an individual basis.

Pilates is a mind/body exercise so be prepared to do a lot of thinking over your first few sessions. Learning to feel muscles working as well as controlling them takes time and practice. How you learn is individual to you, so we use many different teaching techniques to assist you in your practice. We encourage you to ask questions before, during or after class as well as informing us if you have any pain issues so we can provide modifications as needed.

Life is too short to spend precious time sitting through numerous doctors visits and going through endless bottles of pills in an attempt to feel good. We want our lives, and the lives of our client’s to be spent building memories with friends and family. This is why we specialize in Pilates Instruction that focuses on maintaining fitness and rehabilitation. Our members aren’t as concerned with 6 pack abs, as much as simply feeling comfortable and confident in their clothes. Our fitness community is a supportive one.
