It can be helpful to have easy to use and easily accessible tools for when you need them most. This graphic is a great visual for some grounding strategies.

Over the years, I have also found that having a "grounding tool kit" can be helpful. I have created my own and share what I have with those I support. I have a basket that contains an array of items that all require the use of many of my senses. (Essential oils roll on and room spray, chewing gum, mints or butterscotch candies, squishy ball, scented hand cream, scented markers for colouring, a photo of my grandkids and a print out of a sheet like this one.

If you struggle with feeling overwhelmed or anxious, consider creating your own "grounding tool kit". In those moments when it can be a challenge to think of anything to do to help calm your nervous system, give yourself the gift of not having to think of anything. It is all right where you need it.
