Did you know?
1. Almost 10 percent of males and 20 percent of females over the age of 60 will be affected by arthritis.
2. The most common joints that arthritis will affect is the knees and hips
3. X-rays do not tell the whole picture. Many people may have more pain than the X-ray will show and this may be due to our nervous system.
4. Exercise and Education have been proven to be the most beneficial treatment for those with osteoarthritis. Exercises will have positive affect on our joints, muscles and nerves.
“Exercise is Medecine”
5. Losing weight will help to decrease the load and stress on our joints especially of the hips and knees. This will help to decrease inflammation of these joints.
6. Surgery may not be indicated for all patients. Treating the joints through exercise and physiotherapy can help to keep and build mobility, flexibility and strength.

At Meridian Spine & Joint Physiotherapy, our clinicians are skilled at the assessment and treatment you need to keep moving and treat osteoarthritis. Call us today at (519)471-7900.

This lovely weather has made us all anxious to get outdoors to swing the racquet or golf club. Golf and tennis are two sports that require strong grip and wrist/forearm muscles. Pain may be due to poor mechanics of the sport, repetitive strain, over use and weakness of the forearm muscles.

Tennis elbow is the term for pain on the outside of the elbow. Pain with gripping and lifting the wrist and fingers upward, especially with the elbow straight, is often reported. Tenderness will be noted on the outside of the elbow. It is called tennis elbow because gripping the racquet and holding the wrist in the extended position to contact the ball in tennis can cause pain. Many people develop these symptoms without playing tennis. Key boarding, writing and manual work can cause this pain.

Golfer’s elbow is associated with gripping and bending the wrist and fingers upward. This is the position you need to hold the golf club. Pain is felt on the inside of the elbow and tenderness is often reported. However, like in tennis elbow, many people develop this condition without playing golf. Lifting weights, manual work and repetitive gripping and flexing the wrist may cause this pain.

At Meridian Spine & Joint Physiotherapy, our clinicians have worked with many people that have developed tennis or golfers elbow. We will complete a detailed assessment to determine the cause of the pain and develop an individualized treatment plan guided by your personal goals. Call us today at (519) 471-7900 to see one of our physiotherapists and/or massage therapists and get back in the game!

Pain is often challenging and difficult to manage. It may come on quickly (acute) or be present for several months/years (chronic).

Musculoskeletal pain can be influenced by the amount of tissue damage, past experiences, fear, anxiety, stress, lack of sleep, and habits. The pain may come from one area but felt or referred to another area of the body. The amount of pain a person experiences may not correlate with the amount of tissue damage. All of this can affect our perception and how we manage the pain. Ultimately it will affect us physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.

Physiotherapy can help to assess the cause of musculoskeletal pain, best practice treatment and help to alleviate the pain and manage it properly. Proper physiotherapy treatment will help you get back to leading a healthy and vibrant life! Contact Meridian Spine & Joint Physiotherapy at (519)471-7900

Posture is the position that someone holds their body when sitting, standing or moving. It is an active activity and should be variable throughout the day. We believe that your best posture is your next posture. This means that moving into another position will help your body to prevent stiffness and pain developing. Movement is vital.

Posture is the foundation of movement and requires our minds, nervous system, muscles and joints to work in harmony.

At Meridian Spine & Joint we believe in the importance of posture and movement. Our physiotherapists will work to help you improve your mobility and understand the importance of changing positions or posture regularly.
