Do you leave your prenatal appointments with your care provider feeling, well, underwhelmed? 😕

You aren’t alone if you do! Feeling like you leave with unanswered questions or rushed out the door is what we often hear from parents. The truth is, it isn’t actually your care providers job to provide you with childbirth education, to teach you how to breastfeed or to prep you to take home a new human.

Becoming informed and confident going into this new season is really on YOU. Pour into your birth experience before you have your birth experience!

In our class we want to teach you the things your care provider isn’t actually in charge of teaching you. Like how to end your pregnancy beautifully, how to prep your WHOLE self to be a birther, how to navigate routine procedures and policy, how to advocate for you, your birth and your baby!

Our biggest early labour tip? Ignore her. ✌🏼

Don’t get us wrong, labour IS exciting, you’ve anticipated this day for so long!

But the truth about early labour is (IF you experience early labour), it can sometimes be long, we’re talking hours or days being within the realm of normal. When eager parents enter into early labour with panic or desire to do all the movement things, guess what happens? By the time active labour comes, when mom can no longer ignore labour, she’s already completely spent with no energy left to rise to the occasion. 😴

If you can ignore labour, ignore it!! Consider this the opportunity to build up capacity to move through the rest of labour. Go to sleep, pop on a movie, get a massage, drink hydrating drinks, have a bath, go for a gentle walk with a friend. Do things that tell your body and heart “I’m safe, I will rest, this isn’t party time just yet”. If labour demands you breathe and move during contractions then maybe we’ll take her call 🤭

You’ve just had your baby and here’s the thing....In those early postpartum days, a lot can feel overwhelming. 🫣 Knowing normal expectations around breastfeeding is so helpful in this season of huge transition. Our breastfeeding class is about empowerment, preparation, and confidence.

It won’t guarantee a challenge-free journey, but it’ll help you feel equipped and supported from the start to know why you are even trying with breastfeeding, to know the difference between colostrum and your mature milk, to know what a good latch will look and feel like and to know what it looks like when baby is drinking.

Join me virtually, Wednesday, July 23rd at 8PM to set yourself up for success with your breastfeeding journey. Link to book is in our bio!

It’s a commonly held belief that cervical checks are the standard for determining how birth is going. But fixating on a cervix is such a minimization approach to understand the whole (and 💫magical!💫) picture of what is happening in birth.

One of the areas where birth workers see cervical checks as being problematic is when a birther and care team use cervical dilation to grasp at some predictability for how the birth is going and how long it will go on for.

Women can be 3-4cm dilated at the end of pregnancy having not had any noticeable contractions, women can sit at the same dilation for many hours despite strong contractions, and women can fly through dilation in the matter of a few contractions. 😱

If you can even imagine, babies are born all the time with no one having any idea how far dilated the birther is at any point in her labour. 😉

Labour is way too cool and mysterious to be boxed into obsession with one piece of a big picture. There is so much more to labour progress. Join us this summer and Fall to understand the bigger picture! ❤️
