It is with mixed emotions that I announce the death of my beloved father, the President of the London Valley Consistory Club, John R. MacLeod, on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, at University Hospital in London, following a relatively short illness. He was just shy of his 94th birthday, but he was known to tell people he had his 73rd birthday a while ago (like 20 years ago!) While I am sorry to say goodbye, I’m thankful that Dad had a long happy life, we sent him with all our love, and I am certain that he was recieved by my Mom and so many others who love him who have gone before.
Dad became only the third President of the Consistory Club in 1989, on the death of Cecil Hill. He was a dedicated Scottish Riter, and very proud to be a member of the Consistory Club. Over the years he guided the club through a great deal of growth; since we loan our equipment out for free we account for it as zero dollars, but the reality is we have many millions of dollars worth of equipment that we loan out, free of charge, for as long as it is needed. Many thousands of people have benefitted from the hard work and dedication that Dad gave to the London Valley Consistory Club.
But it all wasn't toil and drudgery - Dad loved what he was doing, and loved the volunteers he was working with. He truly enjoyed helping others, and when Mom died in 2007 the Consistory Club was his salvation - to seek the solace of his own distress by extending relief and consolation to his fellow creatures. Dad enjoyed helping our clients, answering the phone (which he couldn't hear very well, even with his hearing aids), and sitting in the chairs, supervising, and making sure the chairs didn't float away! He was a hugger, and when people made donations he offered to give them a hug as thanks. He also was happy to offer visitors a donut. When Covid hit we were asked to supply the LHSC with commodes for the emergency hospital at Western Fair; fortunately the need for them never materialized, but we suddenly had over 100 brand new commodes on hand...which gave rise to Commode Tuesday, and Commode Thursday, where everyone was offered a commode, which could also be used as a great fishing bucket. That was Dad's sense of humour, and it will be greatly missed.
Recently Dad was awarded his 50 year pin as a Scottish Riter. John R. MacLeod was a wonderful, caring man, who saw a need and tried to make a difference - and left us with a motto which guides us every day
"Be proud of who you are - Be proud of what you do"
With love and gratitude, Dave MacLeod, a proud son and brother

Greetings all! There is always a great demand for short term loans of equipment during the holiday season, as people come to visit and may require some assistive devices. If we have it, we will be happy to loan it to you - the only thing we ask is that you return it when it is no longer required! We would encourage you to come in sooner rather than later if you wish to borrow anything.
Please note our holiday hours - we will be operating with our normal hours except for Thursday, December 26th - when we will be closed for the Boxing Day holiday.
On behalf of the members of the London Valley Consistory Club and our many volunteers, we would like to wish you a safe, joyous, and peaceful holiday. Pax vobiscum

Reflecting on September 30th – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Brethren,

As we approach September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we are called to reflect on the shared history of Canada and the Indigenous Peoples whose lives and communities have been profoundly impacted by the legacy of residential schools. This day, also known as Orange Shirt Day, reminds us of the children who never returned home, the survivors, and the ongoing effects felt across generations.

Freemasonry is founded on the principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth. These values call upon us not only to strive for self-improvement but also to work towards improving the world around us. Truth and reconciliation, at their core, are guided by education and understanding. It is only through learning about the wrongs of the past and understanding their continued effects that we can walk the path toward healing and justice.

As Masons, we have a duty to use our principles to contribute to the mending of these historical wounds. Some ways we can engage are:

1. Seek Truth Through Education: One of our central tenets is the pursuit of truth. By actively seeking to educate ourselves about the history and ongoing impact of residential schools, we can better understand the truths that have been ignored or hidden for so long. Consider learning from Indigenous voices, reading reports from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and participating in community events.

2. Brotherly Love Through Compassion and Action: Freemasonry teaches us to extend our compassion to all people, regardless of their background. We can support reconciliation efforts by building relationships with Indigenous communities, listening to their stories, and standing in solidarity with them. This might involve your lodge participating in local events, offering charitable support, or providing resources to Indigenous led initiatives.

3. Relief Through Restorative Justice: We can help to right the wrongs of the past by using our collective influence to advocate for justice and equity. Masonic lodges can play a role in addressing systemic issues by promoting education, supporting Indigenous businesses, and fostering dialogue between communities. The work of reconciliation is not a single act but an ongoing commitment to healing.

Our principles guide us to be builders, and the most important structure we can build is a society rooted in understanding, respect, and justice for all. Let this day serve as a reminder of our shared responsibility to seek truth, promote education, and help heal the divisions of the past.

Fraternally,

M.W. Bro. Jamie Ireland
Grand Master
