Step 1 is where integration begins — not by adding techniques, but by learning how to understand the internal system that shows up when trauma is activated.

Intro to IFS for EMDR Therapists offers a clear, experiential foundation for working with parts inside trauma therapy. This training helps clinicians recognize protectors, understand their role in the system, and begin cultivating Self-energy as a stabilizing presence in session.

For EMDR-trained therapists, Step 1 brings clarity to moments that often feel confusing or disruptive: avoidance, resistance, internal conflict, or sudden shifts in affect. Rather than pushing past these moments, therapists learn how to work with them — safely and intentionally.

Step 1 is not about becoming an IFS therapist overnight. It’s about building a shared language and structure that supports everything that follows.
