Pamela Michienzi, Registered Psychotherapist / Art Therapist Often we encounter setbacks and barriers in life that prevent us from being able to move forward in What is Art Therapy? How Does It Work? What Are The Benefits?

Art therapy, also called art psychotherapy combines the creative process and psychotherapy, facilitating self-exploration and understanding. Using imagery, colour and shape as part of this creative therapeutic process, thoughts and feelings can be expressed that would otherwise be difficult to articulate. Art can be used to invite clients to approach difficult issues in a safe and non-threatening way in which a client can use self-exploration and self-interpretation as a language of therapy. The emphasis is placed not on the artistic ability or creativity of the client, but on the meaning that is allowed to be expressed in art through storytelling. By respectfully asking careful questions an Art Therapist is able to help the client to describe the image and express the feelings contained in it. Art Therapy can be used as a tool to explore feelings too difficult to talk about. Art helps to express these feelings that can often be difficult to share with words alone. Art therapy uses art in a creative and self-reflective way using the art in order to gain a deeper understanding of oneself and others. Many thoughts and feelings can be contained in a single image or
images can also hold multiple meanings. Art therapy can increase coping skills, enhance cognitive function, resolve inner conflicts, develop and maintain a peaceful state of mind and integrate life experiences that have been previously cut off from awareness or personal acceptance.

When a child experiences emotional neglect, they develop a tendency to abandon their own needs as a survival mechanism. Unconsciously, they internalize the belief that they are undeserving and settle for less. This is where the process of transformation begins. Recognizing patterns and reframing limiting beliefs enables individuals to transcend their current circumstances. It is time to thrive, rather than merely survive.

Are you stuck in the same loop.

You say “yes” when you mean “no.”
You pull away instead of speaking up.
You give 70% — and you feel it.

Self-betrayal doesn’t always scream. Sometimes it whispers — in one more skipped workout, one more conversation avoided, one more promise quietly broken.

Over time, those whispers wear down your self-worth. Not because you’re weak — but because you’re out of integrity with yourself.

Self-worth isn’t built on affirmations. It’s built on evidence. And that evidence comes from living in alignment with your word.

All things die when treated as optional.
Goals.
Dreams.
Relationships.

I don't believe you need to be healed to have the things you want and need.
You need new experiences to show your nervous system a new and safe reality.

Jealousy isn't always about wanting what someone else has. Sometimes it's actually the hurt of what you were never given. The love you didn't receive. The safety you never felt. That sharp stab when you see other's being treated the way you needed. It’s not jealousy, it's grief.

Accountability feels like an attack when you're not willing to acknowledge how your behaviour hurts others.
