What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy. It’s is used to treat PTSD, post-trauma symptoms, anxiety, depression, grief and more.
EMDR posits that the brain has a natural, beautiful ability to heal itself. EMDR uses “dual activated stimuli” to help you process traumatic memories and beliefs. It helps to reconnect you- in a safe way- to the images, thoughts, emotions and body sensations associated with the trauma. The allows the healing powers of the brain to bring forth adaptive resolution.
What does this mean for you? You can expect to feel way, way better. During EMDR training, all therapists got to experience multiple sessions of EMDR treatment. For me (Jordan) it helped profoundly heal birth trauma that I had. EMDR helps to lessen your intrusive thoughts and images of the trauma and changes your negative belief (in my case- “I was weak”) to a positive belief- “I am strong”.
Studies have shown that between 84-90% of single trauma victims no longer had PTED after only 3 sessions. In another, 77% of combat veterans were free of PTSD after 12 sessions.
Your mileage may vary, but if you’re looking for some serious change, EMDR could be what you’re looking for. It is not suitable for everyone in every situation, and you can expect a thorough assessment by our team to help you determine when and if EMDR is right for you. Lucky for us, we have a lot of folks who offer this profound healing modality.
