Greetings, my name is Pam Plain, my roots are in Aamjiwnaang First Nation and I reside in London, Ontario. I am pleased to assist those on their healing journey.

I use my spiritual intuition and ways of knowing to assist clients on their healing path, including utilizing many cultural practices and traditional medicines embedded throughout my work. I am very knowledgeable with western counselling theories and intermix cultural practices with a two-eyed seeing approach to my therapeutic work.

What is trauma?

Trauma is a significant emotional or physical event that impacts our sense of safety and security. The impact of trauma can be lifelong, but it does not have to be. Trauma responses are natural, but they can also be overwhelming and destructive if we don't learn how to heal from them.

When we experience something traumatic, our bodies respond in predictable ways. There are four categories of trauma responses: fight, flight, freeze or fawn.

Each of these responses has its own set of consequences for your mind and body. Trauma affects the way we think and feel about ourselves, others and the world around us. It impacts our ability to make choices in our best-interest and live fully in the present moment.

Trauma responses are powerful. They can leave us feeling like we are losing control, or unable to make decisions that feel right for us. Sometimes it feels as though our lives have been hijacked by an outside force.

If you've been experiencing any of these response patterns in your life lately, it's important to know that healing from trauma is possible. It takes time, patience and support to recover from these experiences, but the journey is worth it.

You can learn to manage your trauma responses, and begin to process painful events from your past, so that you can live more fully in the present.

People often think of therapy as something you do when you're broken, when you need to 'fix' your problems. But therapy is really about helping you learn how to navigate your own life with more ease, grace, and connection. To allow yourself the space to uncover the experiences that have shaped you, to learn about them, and to learn from them. A place where you grow as a person and develop new skills that help you live your life in a way that feels good for you.

Therapy is not a quick fix, but it is an investment in yourself. It takes work to make it work. The therapist plays an important role - someone who can guide you, listen carefully and deeply, support you and offer feedback - but ultimately it is up to you to put in the hard work of being vulnerable, honest, and curious about what is happening in your life. But if you are willing to do that work... the rewards are truly endless.
