So true!
The word “normal” has gaslit more midlife women than I can count.
“Your labs are normal.”
“Your symptoms are normal.”
“This is normal for your age.”
🚩🚩🚩
But let’s be clear, normal does not mean optimal.
Normal means you fall somewhere within a statistical range where other people also don’t feel great, but it doesn’t explain why your hair is thinning, your periods are miserable, your sleep is trash, or your mood feels like a rollercoaster.
The truth? Lab ranges are often based on large populations that include people with chronic health issues, inflammation, and hormone imbalances. So yes, your results might be “normal” on paper while your body is screaming at you that something is off.
What I care about and what I want more practitioners to care about is what’s optimal for you.
Not average. Not barely passing. Not “wait until it gets worse and then we’ll do something.”
Your hormones aren’t just numbers on a chart. They are constantly sending signals about what your body needs. When those signals show up as fatigue, weight changes, mood swings, hot flashes, or low libido, it’s not “just aging,” it’s your body asking for support.
So the next time someone tells you, “Your labs are normal,” I hope you feel empowered to ask:
➡️ But are they optimal?
➡️ Are they optimal for my age, my life stage, and my symptoms?
Because you deserve better than normal. You deserve to feel well.
Where do you begin? Get your labs done…ASAP. You need to know where you’re at now before you can change where you’re going.
