Thank you everyone who messaged to ask if the EVAH-North team arrived home before the snowstorm hit yesterday. As our amazing friends at PetSave said, it was sudden Snowmagedon!!! They needed to abandon their vehicle last night but in true North spirit the PetSave shelter got their dogs and cats looked after by sending in volunteers on snowmobiles! The team is still up north, trying to sort out possible travel later today or another overnight. We try very hard to increase access to care in all of our EVAH regions and sometimes that means rolling the dice with Mother Nature a little further North lol. Sending them all positive thoughts, SAFE TRAVELS wishes when they do begin their drive home.

OH CANADA, tough stuff, eh?!

You know some of our crew is in the ‘near North’ Ontario working on our EVAH-North mobile when they message you after hours to say :
“we just had the most Canadian emergency appointment request, ever.”

🐶Dog meets Beaver. 🦫
Dog thinks Beaver is worth checkin’ out.😎
Dog figures Beaver is probably easily intimidated.😏
Dog learns his lesson the hard way 🇨🇦.

Luckily for this gorgeous pooch (whose name is “Bear” and is an absolutely darling!) even though a Beaver-chomp-chomp was needed to learn a lesson, all is now ok! The dog is now fixed up by EVAH’s team, and the beaver meandered off unscathed & we suspect chuckling.

American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) important CAUTION: Reusable facemasks/migraine gel masks may pose a serious toxicity risk to dogs!

Veterinary toxicologists are reporting cases of dogs ingesting the hydrogel inside these masks and developing:

➡️ GI illness
➡️ Rapid-onset neurologic signs
➡️ Tremors, ataxia, and seizures

Even small amounts may be dangerous, potentially due to trace acrylamide, a known neurotoxin.

The face/eyemasks may not be considered a household hazard, especially when stored in freezers or bedside drawers, but please treat them as such for your dog’s safety.

IT’S WORLD SPAY DAY!
We feel seen 🙂
February 24th is World Spay Day (last Tuesday of February) : an international campaign promoting spay/neuter to prevent pet overpopulation, reduce shelter euthanasia, and improve animal health. Three pretty obvious yet crushingly immense necessities EVERYONE in any facet of animal welfare knows as their wishlist.
World Spay Day was launched in 1995 by the Doris Day Animal League and everyone around the globe is encouraged to celebrate it by scheduling, sponsoring, or volunteering for affordable sterilization clinics for cats and dogs.
Throughout the day we will be sharing posts which we hope is also a fun and easy way for YOU to participate in World Spay Day by following, liking and sharing.
