Developing young athletes is a passion of mine. Here is one test you can do with your child to check how their movements are developing or regressing (Overtraining can do more harm than good). Do they have the stability, mobility and strength to do a full body squat with arms above their head.
My son in this example is missing glute strength in his deep squat - an area we will focus on developing through play (having fun). Stay tuned with how I will try and trick my son in improving his glute strength while having fun.
