Exciting News! Welcome Dr. Joy Dertinger ND to the clinic!
The Whole Health Naturopathic Clinic is excited to welcome Dr. Joy to the clinic! She will be starting to see patients at the clinic May 5, 2025. She is excited to bring her knowledge and experience to help serve and guide patients at the clinic. She has experience with mental health concerns and has done research on anxiety and depression with the naturopathic college. She is excited to help patients with all health concerns and maintains a prescribing licence, allowing her to serve patients needing hormone replacement for thyroid and female hormones. She is looking forward to seeing patients and moving them toward optimal health.

Warming Socks

Warming socks are a type of hydrotherapy. It is great for adults and children. You should put them on at bedtime.

Warming socks acts to reflexively to increase blood flow and decrease congestion in the upper respiratory passages, head and throat. It increases white blood cells and has a sedating action. This treatment can help reduce pain and increase the healing response during acute infections.

Directions:
Take a pair of thin cotton socks and soak them completely with ice cold water. Wring the socks out thoroughly and put them on warm feet. (If you feet are cold, warm them in a foot bath first) Cover with thick wool socks and climb into your warm cozy bed. Keep the socks on until they dry or overnight.

Garlic Tea

Garlic Tea is a great home remedy for treating sore throats, cold symptoms and boosting immune function.

Ingredients:

2 cloves garlic- crushed
Boiling water
Lemon wedge
Honey

Directions:

Add the 2 cloves crushed garlic into a mug and fill with boiling water. Cover and steep for 30 minutes. Remove the crushed garlic and add lemon and honey to taste.

Oh no! The virus has taken you down. Here are some strategies to help:

- Anti-viral herbs like: Goldenseal, Usnea, Codonopsis, Astragalus, Eleutherococcus, Elecampane and Thyme
- Anti-viral nutrients: Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Zinc
- NAC (n-acetyl-cysteine) is a mucolytic. This can help dry up mucous in the chest or nasal passages. Great for post-nasal drip.
- Rest
- Hydrate
- Limit mucous forming foods like sugar and dairy
- Saline nasal lavage and throat gargles

Let's try to keep those pesky viruses at bay with some prevention tactics:

Wash your hands before meals and when you get home from work or school.
Limit touching your face
Eat a whole food diet containing adequate protein, veggies and fruits. Aim to eat the rainbow. Try to limit sugars and processed foods.
Get enough sleep
Try to keep stress as low as possible
Optimize nutrients that support immune function like: Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Zinc
Add in a probiotic with specific strains for cold/flu prevention
Add in immunomodulating nutrients like medicinal mushrooms: sh*take, maitake, reishi, ganoderma
Daily saline nasal lavage and throat gargles.
Try to move your body daily
