Today is Tom Longboat Day in Ontario!
Born on June 4, 1887, in Six Nations of the Grand River Tom Longboat (Cogwagee) of the Onondaga Nation became one of the world's most celebrated long-distance runners. He made history in 1907 by winning the Boston Marathon in record time!
During WWI, he served as a dispatch runner in France with the 107th Pioneer Battalion. His legacy continues through the Tom Longboat Awards, honouring Indigenous athletes across Canada.
Inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, Longboat's impact still inspires today.
