What does an MDEL mean to a medical professional- end user.

1. If you are a medical professional, you should be purchasing from a supplier that holds an active MDEL - here is the link to the Health Canada website - just type in the company name - https://health-products.canada.ca/mdel-leim/index-eng.jsp

2. MDEL is required for anyone/company that sells/distributes medical devices from class 1 to class 4.

3. Valid MDEL holders are required to have labelling and regulatory procedures - compalint labelling, distribution records, procedural and recall documents are kept up to date.

4. IPAC (Infection Prevention and Control) guidance often emphasizes the importance of procuring medical equipment from suppliers holding the appropriate Medical Device Establishment Licence (MDEL). This ensures the equipment meets regulatory standards and is safe for use in healthcare settings. MDEL holders are businesses authorized to import, distribute, or manufacture medical devices in Canada.

5. Health Canada's Medical Device Establishment License (MDEL) is crucial for companies importing or distributing medical devices in Canada. MDEL holders are responsible for ensuring the devices they import or sell meet Canadian safety standards. To legally import or distribute medical devices, including those for human use, companies need an MDEL.

This test is meant for a vacuum steam sterilizer only...

A dynamic air removal test must be performed every day the sterilizer is used before running regular loads. A Type 2 test must be used.

CSA - Section 16.5.7

This test has nothing to do with BI's or class 5's

The holder is re-usable and the test must be done with the holder

Cost works out to $1.35 each test

This device is more challenging than making your own - will take up less space - Easy-to-use, consistent, reproducible challenge.

A PCD pack is used in the sterilization process to simulate the worst case conditions for sterilizing medical instruments to verify the effectiveness of a sterilization cycle.

New line of class 4 sterilization pouches = lower prices

What is the difference between class 4 and class 1

A class 4 sterilzation pouch has both an internal and external indicator - a class one does not

A class 4 sterilzation pouch, in steam sterilization - these chemical indicators are used to monitor one or more of the sterilization process parameters such as steam, pressure, temperature and time.

A class 1 sterilization pouch, in steam sterilization - only indicates that it has been exposed to the sterilization process NOT that proper sterilization has been achieved.

According to IPAC and CSA, if you are using a sterilization pouch lower than a class 4, you must put a class 4 strip in every pouch. It would be cheaper to switch to a class 4 pouch.
