Happy Administrative Professionals Day to the person who keeps our entire team running. Caitlin is often the first voice you hear and the steady force behind everything we do. Her organization, patience, and sense of humour make it possible for the rest of us to show up for our clients every day! Thank you Caitlin!!

Happy Earth Day 🌎—a wonderful opportunity to support our clients in connecting with the world around them through language, play, and meaningful experiences in nature. Whether it’s exploring new vocabulary outdoors or building communication skills through shared moments, every interaction helps grow strong, confident communicators.

Communication isn’t one-size-fits-all—and that’s something Autism Awareness Month invites us to truly
understand.

Autistic individuals may communicate in ways that look different from what we expect: using fewer words, relying on scripts, communicating through gestures or devices, or expressing themselves more comfortably in certain environments. These differences aren’t deficits—they’re part of human diversity.

When we try to shape an autistic person’s communication to fit our ideas of social norms, it can lead to masking—when someone consciously or unconsciously hides their natural communication style to meet those social expectations. While masking may help a person “blend in,” it often comes at a cost: increased anxiety, exhaustion, and a loss of authentic self-expression.

As communication partners, our role isn’t to change how someone communicates—but to meet them where they are. That might look like:
✨ Giving extra processing time
✨ Accepting alternative forms of communication
✨ Reducing pressure for eye contact or “typical” responses
✨ Valuing all attempts to connect

When we shift our perspective from “fixing” communication to understanding it, we create space for more meaningful, respectful connections. Let’s celebrate and support all forms of communication!

Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, we take time to learn more about autism and the diverse ways individuals experience the world.

At our clinic, we are committed to increasing understanding, reducing stigma, and supporting each individual’s unique communication strengths. Awareness is an important first step - it means listening to autistic voices and continuing to grow in how we support our clients and families.

Together, we can build a more informed, compassionate, and inclusive community. 💙
