October is OT Month. We asked Emily from the Huntsville team to share more about why she loves being an OT. Here is her story: "Born and raised in Huntsville, Ontario, I can be found on the lake, soccer field, or travelling the world! The opportunity to help individuals live at home with not only increased safety but also increased well-being, dignity, and personhood is something I find special about working for Closing the Gap. Working in the community allows me to integrate creativity into my care provision, making every day new and exciting. This, along with my lifelong passion for helping others, drives me every day to be the best occupational therapist I can be.” Thank you to all of CTG's OTs for the dedication and hard work you put in every single day. Happy OT Month!

And finally, meet Stella. For her, being a CCA is part of her service to humanity. This is her story: "Like a mirror image, I see reflections of myself and loved ones in everyone I am honoured to care for. This for me, is a gentle reminder that, one day I will in turn be cared for. Therefore, I don’t see it as a duty but a great service to humanity. I have experienced overwhelming love, learnt new things, had wonderful and meaningful interactions with these amazing people I care for. This keeps me motivated every day, and for that, I’m grateful! Kudos to the amazing CTG team for providing support and encouragement all the time. I’m proud to be part of this wonderful organization." Thank you to all of CTG's CCAs! We celebrate you and are grateful for all you do.

Meet Jane. Her comforting words make all the difference to her clients. Here is her story: "I have a passion for fulfilling, by demonstrating a sense of humour and making a positive impact in all my clients’ lives, especially seniors and the sick. I see seniors as unique and precious gifts to mankind, and rendering dignified care is part of honouring them. I do my best to honour their care. I love to make them happy by saying what they want to hear: ‘Take your time’ or ‘You’re okay in my hands’ or ‘We are working as a team’. It helps to demonstrate trust, understanding and love to clients. What drives me every day is the opportunity to sharpen my interpersonal skills. The role allows me to multi-task by doing things such as meal prep, housekeeping, and personal care, which builds up my confidence and independence, making me better at problem-solving. Caring for someone is super powerful; its reward cannot be quantified."

Meet Chevonesse. We asked her why she loves her job. This is what she had to say: "It brings joy to my heart to see my clients happy. Every day brings new opportunities to learn and contribute, making each task fulfilling by providing quality care for each client and putting a smile on their faces, knowing that sometimes we are the only people who these clients see daily. I love my job because it allows me to delve into challenges that stimulate my creativity and growth. They look forward to seeing us even just for a chat or to share their memories, and this gives me a sense of accomplishment and fuels my passion."

Meet Trustin. To him, being a CCA is more than just a job. Here is his story: "I enjoy working in homecare because it allows me to establish personal connections with clients. Every day I look forward to our conversations, learning about their lives and hearing about their experiences. Seeing the happiness on their faces when we laugh or converse is really satisfying. What motivates me is the knowledge that I can make someone’s day even just a little bit better, and have a positive, long-lasting effect. Making a difference in their lives, one smile at a time, is more important than just a job."

Meet Oluwakemi. She has been caring for others since she was young, so becoming a CCA was a natural fit for her. Here is her story: "Since l was young, I have liked to care for everyone around me. I am not surprised now that I am doing what gives me joy and makes me a complete person. Caring for vulnerable people has always been a passion for me. Their safety, caring, communication, mood, sadness, joy, and happiness is a top priority for me. I meet different people for care every day and am always happy making them happy and comfortable in their own home. My role as a CCA is very important and special because we help clients in the comfort of their homes and we are the first caregiver that they see very often. We know them and understand them so well. l love my work and am happy doing it."

October is Continuing Care Month. It's also Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Week in Nova Scotia! Over the course of the week, we will be sharing the stories of some of the incredible CCAs in CTG's Team Made for Caring. First up: meet Heather. Here is her story: "What I truly love about being a CCA in a home support setting is being able to care for my clients in their own homes and build meaningful relationships with them and their families. It is so rewarding each and every day knowing that I am making a positive impact on each person at their visit."

We had a great time yesterday at the community info session in Thorncliffe Park to share more about our involvement in the Integrated Neighbourhood Home Care Program in partnership with East Toronto Health Partners. We met community members and listened to their hopes and concerns about home care for themselves and their families. We were inspired by the amazing work community organizations are already doing, and are excited about the opportunity to work together to provide a more seamless home care experience to Thorncliffe Park residents.

Two words that Sheri, Client Services Manager in Halifax, uses to describe CTG's impact are caring and compassion. She models these traits in every interaction with her team members and clients, and that motivates her team to do the same.

For Sam, one of our PTs from Toronto, the impact he makes on his clients is often seen through the excitement of their family members. This is what drives him to deliver care, day in and day out.
