Dear friends,

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share something very special with you all. As many of you know, I am deeply committed to my work as a mother, full-spectrum doula, doula mentor, and a proud Indigenous woman. Since January, I've been working on my Indigenous Childbirth Educator course with the Centre for Indigenous Midwifery. This work is a vital part of reclaiming and honoring my Indigeneity, and I am proud to learn from and work alongside other Indigenous women, midwives, doulas, and Elders.

If you don't know my Great Grandmother, Granny Powder, was an Indigenous Midwife. Every birth I attend, I feel her guiding presence with me. Through my work, I aim to honor her, my family, and all Indigenous people.

I have an amazing opportunity to attend an in-person training in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan from May 31st to June 2nd, which is essential for me to better support Indigenous communities. However, I need some financial assistance to make this happen, covering costs like transportation, accommodation, and food.

If you can, please consider supporting me by donating to my GoFundMe or sharing this post with your network. Every little bit helps, and your support means the world to me.

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity!

With gratitude,

🌟 Happy World Doula Day! 🌟 Today, we celebrate the remarkable impact doulas have on families worldwide. Today, I’m thrilled to share an exciting dream I’ve been working on!

Recently I have taken over Doula Care London, which through the years has seen many different amazing doulas as owners and a part of the team! My dream from DCL is to focus on CommUnity & Growth for not only doulas but the families we support.

Not just individual practices; I want to focus on building connections and nurturing a vibrant community of doulas in Southwestern Ontario. As we celebrate this day, I’m delighted to share my ambitious plan to transform Doula Care London into a vibrant hub for doulas in our region!

My vision is simple yet profound: to create a central platform where doulas are easily found by those looking for support - where potential clients can effortlessly find the perfect doula match for their unique journey. A place where doulas can find others and gather together, support one another, and thrive together.

This last year has proved to me just how important community and connection really is in the birthworld. If I didn’t have the community support I had this last year the trauma and grief I have experienced would have been to much, I probably wouldn’t have continued to work in this space. Instead, I took my passion for supporting, educating and advocating and have been mentoring other doulas and I hope to create a beautiful community for doulas.

So, on this World Doula Day, I extend a heartfelt invitation to all doulas in to join in this transformative journey. Let’s unite to create a thriving community that uplifts and empowers families throughout their parenthood journey. šŸ’«

BIRTH FILMING FOR A DOCUMENTARY

Hello! Are you giving birth in the next 4-6 weeks? Do you know someone who is?

My name is Nathalie Bibeau. I'm a documentary filmmaker, and a mother of two, and I'm looking for candidates who would be interested in having their home birthing experience filmed as part of a documentary about doulas. In exchange for your participation, we're offering free doula services as well as a professionally filmed and edited video of the birth for your own personal use, one that will capture this extraordinary moment for a lifetime. If you are located in the areas of Durham, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Hamilton and any of their surrounding townships, and you are interested in applying, or you would like more information, please send an email of introduction to: doulafilm1@gmail.com. xo

A love letter for doulas

I want to begin by reminding you of the incredible journey you’ve chosen as a doula, a path filled with compassion, care, and unwavering support. Your dedication to walking alongside individuals during their most vulnerable moments is nothing short of extraordinary. So, as you navigate through the ups and downs of this profound work, please remember the immense value you bring to the lives you touch.

Being a doula is not just a profession; it’s a calling, a calling to be there for people during one of the most vulnerable and important experiences of their lives. It’s a commitment to providing emotional, physical, and informational support, to holding space for joy and grief, for advocating, and to celebrating the beautiful journey of birth. Your work and dedication is a testament to your empathy, strength, and love for humanity.

And when faced with moments of doubt or criticism, remind yourself and all fellow doulas and birth workers that your purpose transcends any single experience. You are part of a community of compassionate souls, united by the shared belief that every birthing person deserves respect, support, and love.

As a doula I have always been proud of the way I offer support to the families I work with.

I think that every doula out there brings something special and unique to being a doula.

I will never claim to be the right doula for every person or family out there looking for one. I do however believe that I AM the right doula for many!

I have spent years getting comfortable with my special skills and interests as a doula. I’ve taken the time and put in the effort to focus on the areas within doula work that I wanted to support people through.

On Sunday, June 18th Javi lost their mother after a long fought illness. Javi’s mother was their main source of support, both personally and in their business. Her death has left a big hole in Javi’s life, but we can help. Because of the nature of Javi’s work as a doula and community advocate, they do not have access to bereavement leave. Javi needs our support to help them take the time to grieve their mother and support their son through this loss. Our help will ensure their community work and business will not be affected financially. Any monetary support will go toward covering Javi’s basic needs, including childcare/summer camp for their son. Taking the financial burden off Javi’s shoulders will allow them to focus on healing and will help them return to the invaluable services they provide for families in Sarnia-Lambton and elsewhere. If you can help financially, please consider sending an e-transfer to javi@theradiantdoula.ca Support can also be given through gift cards for grocery/delivery or whatever else feels helpful to you.

12 years ago today my life changed forever.

It’s hard to look back on the last 12 years of my life and not see a single picture of us together. Every major adult life event has happened without you being present.

I’ve been struggling to recall memories and knowing that I will never have new memories with you is a daily struggle.

My grief has been magnified this year witnessing how Sophia is navigating the grief of never knowing you or having that relationship opportunity.

Today, my grief doesn’t feel small or unseen…I feel small and unseen. Like I am not able to give my grief the attention it needs. I am struggling to find the words to share my thoughts, feelings and the experience.

I will remember you through clotheslines and Tracy Chapman, caramel apples and ice skating, making the most of Holidays and making sure my kids have a disgusting amount of pictures of myself and us as a family.

I love you, I miss you, I wish you were here.

Friends in the birth/doula world please take a moment to read this blog post and share it with someone in our community you know.

There is room for everyone in the doula community. We need to make sure that doulas are supported, that our community is strong, that we call people in, show compassion to each other, continue to learn and practice kindness.

The divide in the Doula Community...these thoughts and feelings have been sitting with me for a while so I thought I might as well put pen to paper.

There is so much more that the doula/birth work community can and should be doing to make it a better, safer and more inclusive space. I hope that you will read and share with others.

And if you are touched by anything I said or would be interested in working together because you also see or feel the divide please reach out.

There is room for everyone in the doula community. We need to make sure that doulas are supported, that our community is strong, that we call people in, show compassion to each other, continue to learn and practice kindness.
