No one expects you to be perfect.

No one wants you to be living your life everyday without enjoying it.

If something is not bringing you joy, change it. Or forget it.

I know I have had a lot going on the last few weeks. I also know I need a rest before I become too burned out. So a forced reset it is. (Yes, forced because you all know I’m not great at resting 😉).

A few days away is just what I need to change my life spinning and to show up for you in a better way. My routine wasn’t working so I’ve chosen to change it.

Find your reset ♥️

The dreaded word.

I know what you’re thinking, and I’m here to change it.

Dietary choices can make impactful changes to your and if they’re done with intention. Not just a blanket that leaves you sad and angry….

Here’s when diet becomes most important:

1. Vegetarianism/Veganism- I am all for a diet but eliminating animal protein comes with nutrient deficiencies. As long as you stay on top of them with directed foods and supplements, all is well.

2. Digestive concerns - believe it or not having constipation/diarrhea/IBS/bloating can be treated through diet! 🤯 Your digestion is tightly linked to your hormones, so a directed diet based on your specific situation is key.

3. Insulin dysregulation - this can present as , irregular cycles, heavy cycles, , weight management difficulty, dizziness, appetite changes, fatigue and a whole lot more. Insulin is a hormone itself and has a dramatic impact on menstrual health and fertility, and yes diet can make it better. This one also benefits from regular exercise.

4. Endometriosis - when estrogen goes wild, diet is often right alongside it. Pain, flow and fertility can all be improved through dietary changes.

These are my top 4. I see all of these in practice daily. I also see improvement daily. Get that diet sorted and you’re on your way.

You’ve been thinking about seeing an ND. But you love the doc you have. So, is there a point?

Yes! Naturopathic medicine shines in the integrative setting. Treatments are chosen to further benefit your existing medical support.

It doesn’t need to be ND vs MD. It’s not one or the other. It’s more like we’re better together.

Different perspectives that have the same goal lead to more comprehensive care for you.

It might just be the missing piece ✨

This is my for thyroid function and hormones/fertility.

Please have your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) checked, in the morning, fasted if you can manage. Especially if you have irregular cycles, or have had miscarriages, or have thyroid conditions in your family.

It’s 1 simple inexpensive blood test with a simple treatment that offers SO much benefit to periods and pregnancies.

That’s it. Have it tested and know for sure it’s impact on your health. And yes, there is such a thing as optimal levels. Your ND can tell you more.

Did you know that IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion? Meaning, when nothing else fits you are told you have and just need to deal with it. Frustrating, right?

Luckily naturopathic doctors shine when it comes to these situations. We dig deep and find out what the cause is.

There are different types of which means there are different approaches to consider. Here’s a list of things that may be contributing to your IBS symptoms:

- food sensitivity (lactose, gluten, sugar, etc)
- dysbiosis (yeast or bacterial overgrowth, or even not enough of these guys!)
- allergies/immune dysfunction (constantly sick?)
- digestive enzyme deficiency (stressed? Insomnia?)
- anxiety/depression

There are so many things to look into when it comes to digestion, with these just scratching the surface. It’s never a one answer fits all in the ND world but we’ve got your back.

Or course you know I’ll bring this back to . We know that your digestion is important to maintaining balanced hormones throughout your cycle which in turn helps support a and improve , largely by reducing . Your hormones are happiest when your gut is the happiest.

Migraines are more common than you may think. But what do they have to do with your hormones and fertility? They can be related to hormonal imbalances, inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, deficiencies and more. All of which are related to healthy and successful .

Many women experience them. Many times they are debilitating. Many times women don’t think anything can be done.
Enter your ND.

Things that are important to ask:

1. Do your change with your menstrual cycle?

2. Are they triggered or do they seem random? (Examples of triggers: foods, weather, period, , dehydration, , etc)

3. Do you have other body pain?

4. Does anything help them go away? (Ex. Sleep, medication, water, caffeine etc)

Tracking this information will help prevent their onset or at least help you decide what to do about them.

Seeing your ND with this information in hand will help them choose a way forward. The key is to stick to it. They are one of the most stubborn things to treat but are so rewarding to beat!

Start tracking!

I said it. I know you hate it.

The minute I bring up I can see all your eyes rolling, even though you’re too kind to actually do it 😉

The thing is, when I say stress I don’t mean the , and fear and overwhelming feelings that come with lifestyle. (Although important to manage).

I also don’t mean bubbles baths and spa dates. Although go for it!

What I do mean is stress on your pituitary. Largely due to your circadian rhythm. So let’s back up.

Your pituitary sends out signals to your ovaries (among many other targets) that control your menstrual cycle and therefore have impact on hormonal health and fertility.

Your pituitary likes predictability and safety. So that means regular timed meals, sufficient calories, regular sleep schedule and time for sun and fun. This is especially true for all of the shift workers out there.

So one of the best things you can do for your hormones is to be boring 😉

Tips:
Asleep by 11pm
3 meals per day (looking at you intermittent fasting)
Limit snacking
Fast 12 hours from dinner to breakfast
Daily outdoor activity while the sun is bright

This is for my PCOS ladies 🙌🏼

Have you been told you’ll need to take to get a ?

Or that you need to use withdrawal to bleed?

Or that there’s nothing to worry about until you’re looking to become ?

I thought so... and guess what? It’s not true!

PCOS can be treated. You can have a regular cycle WITH ovulation (just ask my patients 😉) although it does take time.

So, if you have and you’re looking to conceive soon, or if you’re wanting to feel better, consider encouraging a natural cycle.

Tips to all:
- look at your diet and take out anything that bothers your
- increase your activity (in most cases)
- prioritize sleep

That’s already half of the way there!

Embryo transfers, or FETs, are a big part of . You enter your cycle, you collect eggs, fertilize and freeze.

Now what? 🤔

Tip for everyone: after your get up and walk! Circulation is key!

Over and above that we talk about:

Endometrial lining thickness: We look at past cycles or menstrual flow to determine best support.

Risk factor reduction: we discuss this to reduce . We normally run testing that may include a check on function, status and iron levels to start, among other guidance.

Diet: Which foods to consume to increase chances and what levels of activity are right for your body. Pineapple cores not included.

You don’t need to enter your FET unsupported after going through so much to get to that stage ♥️
