Hi everyone!

We’re Eric and Sofia, and we’re thrilled to be running for Co-VP Finance again! (Vote for us under Eric Liu)

We’re proud to have been Co-VP Finance this past year and we hope you give us the chance to do it again and carry on with the momentum we’ve built this year. This past year, we’ve enjoyed learning more about club finances and working together with everyone in this club to run some amazing events. This year we organized a successful popcorn fundraiser and played a part in helping other committees run their events through western storefront setup, reimbursements, efficient budgeting, and much more!

We’re running for Co-VP Finance because we believe strengthening the financial aspect of UAEM is one of the best ways to help us grow and spread our message further. Our goal to strengthen the financial aspect of UAEM is through our platform of: Responsibility, Creative Ideas, and Experience

Responsibility:
- We plan to implement new monthly budget updates on the UAEM website to keep all members in the loop about where our money is going and allowing everyone to play a greater role in deciding our spending
- Continuing to keep a balanced budget

Creative Ideas:
- Fundraisers to help increase our club’s budget, this includes selling popcorn like we did this year, krispy kreme donuts, and cultural foods from communities we’re advocating for
- Collaboration with other clubs and organizations with common goals to pool resources and increase reach, including organizing case competitions with prizes which will help spread awareness
- Using our budget to provide more perks to our members such as more free food and networking opportunities at our monthly general meetings

Experience:
- With our experience as Co-VP finance this year and experience managing budgets and expenditures on other clubs and organizations, we’ve had the opportunity to learn skills key to ensuring the financial success of our club, this includes:
- Running fundraisers and opening storefronts
- Working together with other UAEM committees to ensure they get the optimal budget for their events
- Making the annual and event budgets
- Filing for reimbursements
- Applying for grants

In addition to our platform, we bring to the club our continued commitment to participating in club initiatives and genuine enthusiasm towards advancing the goal of equitable access to medicines, both here in our London community and internationally. A vote for Eric and Sofia is a vote for Responsibility, Creative Ideas, and Experience!

After attending the UAEM North America Chapter Conference, it has become evident that we need to make big humanitarian goals tangible, step by step. Other chapters have achieved great things, and this is not to say we don’t have our own accomplishments. Rather, we have the resources to impact health care access more than we ever have before, all by showing individuals the power they hold. My platform will stray from general ideas and go into how to take action, hosting events about writing Letters to the Editor, how to file Freedom of Information requests, and how to contact other universities/allies internationally. So many students have the desire to push towards accessible medicine, and I plan to give them a practical way to start. Not only will this introduce new members to the club, but it will increase the scale of UAEM at Western, having members who understand the power they hold and work together to express it. Further, I want to show members the scope of UAEM, how none of the goals we’ve set are unrealistic or unachievable. I will run events that teach new members both what we have done at Western and the accomplishments of our other chapters, highlighting that this mission is very much in the realm of possibility. This organization contains so many talented and accomplished people that it would be a shame to not show members the role models they can learn from and even work with. To guide the club, I would start the year with a list of potential projects to work on, whether it be Global health reports, protests, advocating for transparency in clinical trials, etc. Even if we don’t get to all these ideas, it will eliminate the “gray area” UAEM members are often stuck in between events, always giving us something to be working towards. As well, I want to do more collaboration with other clubs, to both increase the reach of UAEM and show that we are not purely a club for life science students, but a club for anyone with the passion for advocacy. Overall, as VP events, I plan to revamp the spirit of UAEM and express to members that this is a real organization that can create real change as long as we commit towards it.

Hey UAEM Western!

I’m Michelle Zhu and I’m very excited to announce my candidacy for the position of Vice President of Communications for UAEM Western.

Having been a Director of Communications this past year, I enjoyed the diverse experiences and ability to gain insight into the operations of the club. This club has helped me develop my strong enthusiasm for raising awareness for access to quality healthcare.

Alongside my passion for healthcare access, I believe that the leadership skills and competencies I have gained through my various experiences make me an ideal candidate for this position.

Some of my previous communications experience include working at a pharmaceutical research clinic and making scientific literature accessible to participants from the general public. This involved translating scientific protocols and various jargon into palatable information, both verbally and in writing. From this experience, I also developed a personal understanding on the importance of the accessibility and affordability of essential medicines.

In addition, I have also worked as a Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) history theory teacher. This entailed compiling various materials and communicating it to students in a clear and effective way. This experience has taught me many lessons in leadership and communication.

If elected as your VP of Communications, my goals are to:

1. Facilitate intra-club communication. I plan on implementing a platform (such as Discord), where all members of UAEM Western can easily communicate with each other and have open discussions. This new platform will work conjointly with our existing blog and newsletter, with the goal of eliciting more discussions and improving intra-club connections.
2. Expand the reach of our website, with the primary goal of increasing traffic. Personally, I know that the only websites I visit on a daily basis are OWL and NYTimes Games. To keep up our online presence, I plan on implementing interactive puzzles and trivia on our website centered on healthcare accessibility.
3. Consistent evaluations of communication strategies. My third goal is to ensure that our committee is communicating information in an effective way. I believe this is vital in improving club image and I plan on doing this by consistently evaluating advertising strategies while receiving feedback from all members of UAEM Western.

Thank you for your consideration and taking the time to read my campaign.

I’ll be counting on your vote! 😁

Hey UAEM! I'm Jasmine and I'm going into my final year of biology after doing a science internship year. I am the current co-VP of Communications and I hope to bring you all another year of emails and website updates!

I've been part of UAEM since 2020, starting in the events team and moving to comms last year. I joined because of my residence soph and I've stayed ever since. UAEM's goal of accessible healthcare is something I truly believe in, and something I hope to fight for. As a biology student interested in pharmaceutical production, I believe that an awareness of disparities in healthcare is something that everyone in the medical and related fields should know of. UAEM has given me insight into the causes and consequences of inaccessible healthcare, and I hope to apply this knowledge in my future career.

After four years in this club, I've gained valuable insight into the club's inner workings and I hope to continue to apply my knowledge while learning more on the way. In the past year I've learned how to update and add to the club website, how to send mass emails and how to schedule emails. As it was my first time on this committee, I had to adapt quickly and use my resources to my full advantage.

If re-elected, I will apply everything I learned this past year and continue to try and improve. Website maintenance and newsletters will continue with the feedback I've received. Something new I've been looking to implement is a group chat open to all members of the club. This will hopefully increase communication and camaraderie between committees and general members, while also serving as a better means of sending out last minute reminders.

Thank you all for your consideration, and I hope to see you next year!

Hello UAEM Members!
We are so excited and honoured to announce that together Kristina and I, Madeleine, are running for Co-Presidents of UAEM Western.

My name is Madeleine and I am a second year Nursing student and many of you may know me as your former VP Events. Over the past two years, I have been actively involved in creating events and have been a key participant in building strong partnerships with organizations such as Ark Aid Mission, London Intercommunity Health, and London Children’s Health Foundation. These partnerships have been instrumental in helping our club thrive and make a meaningful impact in our community. It has been both incredibly rewarding and fulfilling to plan and execute events for the club this year. As VP Events, I have gained valuable hands on experience about what it takes to smoothly facilitate initiatives. Through these events I have learned that leadership is not about being the leader, it is about helping the people you lead achieve their fullest potential.

As co-presidents of UAEM Western, we want to embrace the motto "small changes make a big difference.” By joining UAEM, we have all taken the first steps towards making a difference on both a local and global scale. Our dual leadership structure will promote collaboration, inclusivity, and responsiveness, ensuring UAEM Western remains adaptable and effective in achieving our goals. With two presidents, we can drive our mission forward, collaborate seamlessly, and efficiently accomplish our objectives. Together, we are dedicated to taking action to make a meaningful impact.

My name is Kristina and I am running alongside Madeleine as your future co-president. I’m currently in my second year in the Medical Sciences program. If you’ve met me, you’d know how immensely passionate I am about UAEM’s overarching goal to make global health and medicines accessible, particularly in low socio-economic countries. Despite my role as a general member, I advocated for a passion project of mine to initiate a preeclampsia registry in South America and Africa. Furthermore, I contributed to organizing UAEM’s notable A*M (Accessibility 2 Medicine) week to raise awareness about preeclampsia, and recently, I showcased my poster at the UAEM’s 2024 North America Conference, earning the Innovation Award for Best Poster. These experiences highlight my commitment to the club's mission, fueling my readiness to serve as Co-President and oversee UAEM’s executive board and general members. The issue of access to medicines is urgent, and we possess the power to combat inflated drug prices, vaccine disparities, and global health inequities.

Like all great things, much work is needed to make an impact. Together we are both incredibly passionate about UAEM’s mission and genuinely want the best for the club. We are committed to working tirelessly to continue building partnerships, organizing impactful events, and fostering a supportive and inclusive community within UAEM Western.

Our Main focuses as Co-Presidents include:
- Organization: Create monthly calendars outlining upcoming meetings and events to help members stay organized, enhance participation, and maximize engagement.

- Teamwork Framework: Establish a communication system between executive committees to ensure timely coordination and ex*****on of tasks, promoting transparency, accountability, and collaboration for successful project outcomes.

- Legacy Project: We aim to introduce a year-long legacy project as a new UAEM tradition, engaging members in outreach, advocacy, and education that aligns with our mission and values. This initiative will strengthen bonds, inspire leadership, and allow every member to contribute to a lasting legacy.

- Member Engagement: Create engaging opportunities for general members to discover and showcase their own passion projects and partake in meaningful volunteering.

- Partnerships: Strengthen and expand collaborations with local partners such as Ark Aid Mission, London Intercommunity Health Mobile Clinic, and London Children’s Health Foundation to provide impactful opportunities aligned with UAEM’s mission. In addition, we would like to proactively establish global partnerships to widen our reach and amplify our impact internationally.

- Collaboration: Collaborate with other Western clubs, such as the Pre-Med Society, Political Science Association, Public Health Association, Friends of MSF, Pre-Law Society, and UNICEF at Western, to foster interdisciplinary partnerships and enhance collective impact.

- Education: Offer training on UAEM's mission, chapter activities, and specialized terminology to enhance understanding and engagement.

- Support: Provide ongoing support to committees in executing their projects, including fundraisers, ETAF paper advancements, and other initiatives. Additionally, bring in a Western faculty advisor to support UAEM, as their influence would strengthen our decision-making, large-scale event planning, and advocacy efforts within the university.

We believe that with your support, we can lead UAEM Western to new heights and continue making a positive difference in the lives of others. Every member of UAEM has the potential to be a change-maker of tomorrow. Our goal is to create an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can discover their place and passion within UAEM's initiatives. Together, let's take action and create meaningful change!

Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to the opportunity to serve as your co-presidents. Vote for us together under “Madeleine Paul!”

Hey UAEM!
My name is Andy, and I am running to be your president for the 2024/2025 academic year! I'm currently in my third year doing BMSc Medical Cell Biology and also your current Co-VP Promotions for the second year running as you can probably tell by my name being attached to all the Facebook posts :). Nevertheless, I had a great time working alongside the entire team at UAEM creating a substantial following, forwarding our vision for creating advocacy for equitable medicine, and pushing to provide educational events and initiatives that interest the general audience.

Besides UAEM, I'm also VP Promotions for Heart and Stroke Western, hence you might see some similar styles of promotions, but also the President of Simply Scientific, an organization that pushes to provide scientific literacy education for undergraduate students. I know I have the leadership qualities to continue the momentum that we built for UAEM this year and as VP Promotions I worked alongside all the committees so I have a vision on how we should improve reach for next year. But as much as I think I have the qualifications, I think more importantly are the initiatives that we launch.

As a committed advocate for accessible and affordable healthcare and medicine, I hope to hone in on UAEM's roots of Access, Innovation, and Empowerment. I think a big part of UAEM that makes us so unique is our Advocacy and Access teams that delve into research needed to hold publicly funded research institutions to regulations that increase access to medicines and promote medical innovation. The amazing team on Access has done amazing work that I hope to inform the whole club about. I also hope to involved general members more by providing members with more volunteer experiences, a more reliable and formal monthly newsletter, and opportunities to take on larger projects. Thanks to Victoria, one of the best additions to UAEM were our MGMs where all the committees had to come together to work on monthly events. I want to continue to hold these meetings with more attendance from everyone with consistent scheduling and fun incentives like dinner socials.

With that said, I'm just one person and will thus will work closely with every portfolio and hope you will support more as we continue to make a real difference. Thank you for your support!

Hello UAEM! I hope you are doing well!

I’m Mu Ran Zheng, a VP of Advocacy for UAEM and I am so excited to be running for President for the upcoming year! I had the honour this year of leading advocacy initiatives such as the A*M weeks, a fundraiser, speaker events as well as raising awareness through social media and our success was truly thanks to your support!

My experience in UAEM as an events director and a VP of Advocacy gave me a thorough understanding of the club structure. In my role, I was able to increase engagement, develop collaborations with relevant faculty, provide extensive support to the executive team and work with general members. I have also gained a strong understanding of the initiatives of each committee and learnt to navigate USC club expectations, enabling me to better support the team and implement initiatives smoothly.

My initiatives are:
1. Stronger communication between the team.
By working collaboratively with the team, I will provide guidance and facilitate communication between team members to complete tasks in a productive manner. I aim to also work with directors and VPs to ensure that tasks are clear when leading initiatives.

2. Increased support for the team.
To support the team, I strive to regularly check-in with each committee as well as have regular meetings to ensure that we are on task with our goals and to address any concerns from the team. We will also have earlier hiring so that we have more time to prepare our initiatives for the school year.

3. More opportunities for general members.
To increase engagement of general members, there will be more opportunities for them to be involved. Through designing initiatives with general members in mind, as well as implementing a form where they can submit a proposal of their initiative idea and work with the respective committee for further planning, general members will have more opportunities to be involved.

4. Extending the impact of UAEM.
Through continuing to work with relevant organizations and faculty, we are able to enhance our reach and impact. A directory of contacts will be developed to maintain our collaborations for incoming executives.

I am dedicated to our mission of pushing for positive change in research policies and global health. Together, we are empowered to fight for the changes needed to improve access to medicines.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I really appreciate it!
