Babies hit many milestones while they are on the floor! Every part of their body will benefit from tummy time!
⁠⠀
🧠 Develop brain balance and environmental awareness⁠⠀
👀 Helps with visual tracking and depth perception⁠⠀
💪🏻 Build strength for reaching and crawling⁠⠀
🖐🏻 Strengthen muscles for gross and fine motor skills⁠
🍎Helps with tummy aches⁠⠀
🦵🏻Builds muscles for crawling and rolling, as well as flexibility⁠⠀
🧍🏼‍♀️Helps with skeletal alignment⁠⠀
👶🏼Strengthens neck and helps prevent flat head⁠⠀

As far as sleep goes, there are many benefits as well! Being outside of someone’s arms is great practice for independent sleep. It gives them opportunity to get comfortable being on their own for a short period! ⁠🥰

Tummy time is also your opportunity to work on rolling both directions, which is helpful for sleep! Once your baby is able to roll both ways (back to tummy and tummy to back!), then they are strong enough to sleep in any position they choose! 💤

Get them outside in the morning!! ☀️
Even just 30 minutes of morning sunshine can improve sleep for everyone. Sunlight will signal our brain that it is daytime and tell it to decrease melatonin production (the hormone that helps us sleep!) 💤

If you enjoy getting outside after dinner, I’d try to get back indoors an hour before bedtime. This will help signal their body to produce melatonin, making my it easier to fall asleep more easily at bedtime. Because nobody enjoys those bedtime battles! 🥊

I’m taking you along with me on today’s long run! 🏃‍♀️
To remind you that you can do hard things after becoming a Mama! 🥰

It has taken me a long time to get back to this place! My kids are 6 and 8 now, and I have gone through a lot of ups and down with my weight and my athleticism over the years (I lost 35lb in the last year! 🙌🏻). As someone who has always defined herself as an athlete, it was hard to go through the waves of motherhood where I didn’t recognize yourself. Running has always been something that I have loved, but not something I could keep up with consistently as I had babies and my time was stretched. I know many of you are in this boat now, and I want to remind you that this too shall pass 🩷🩷

One day not so far from now, you will be doing the things that bring you joy again. You’ll appreciate and adore the person looking back at you! It just takes some courage to take that first step, but I promise you that it’s worth it 🩷

Seriously, don’t trust a 🌪️ toddler! 😂

Ever look at your toddler at bedtime and feel like “o g this kid could run a marathon right now?! Same. But guess what, that doesn’t mean they aren’t ready for bed!! In fact, it typically means that they should have been put down 10-20 minutes ago!

Hear me out. When our kids get overtired, their bodies produce stress hormones. Cortisol and adrenaline come into play, interfering with their melatonin production and making it look like they are wired with energy! 🤪🤪

So how can we approach this?!
🐑 try shifting bedtime earlier (or shortening the last wake window). I would cut it by 5-15 mins, every few days, stippling once you feel like you’ve found their sweet spot!
🐑 Limit screen time one hour before bedtime. Blue light can hinder melatonin production and make it more difficult for them to settle to sleep
🐑 Dim the lights 30 minutes before bedtime to help their body prepare for sleep

Is your baby ready to drop a nap?! Unsure how to know?? Wondering HOW to do it?! I’ve got you! 🩵💤

If you’re feeling nervous, take a deep breath 😮‍💨 you’ve got this! Life is so much easier with fewer naps involved. And summer is around the corner, you will be happy to have one less nap to worry about 🥰

Managed to hit a new 10km PB today at the Mother’s Day Run! 🏃‍♀️ I went in hoping to finish is 55min, so I was very happy with 53:55 🙌🏻 I had a blast, and feel more ready for my half marathon race next month!

The rest of the day was spent relaxing with the fam 🥰 I hope everyone had a fabulous Mother’s Day weekend! 🩷
