We’ve had a fun and busy month finding ways to stay active, engaged, and connected as the frigid temperatures settle in. Daily movement has been a big focus, with many residents upgrading their workout routines by incorporating light weights to help keep their bodies strong and moving.

There’s also been lots of variety throughout the home, including a spa day, several art and craft sessions, and time spent trying new recipes as part of our updated menu. One highlight was our very first make-your-own sundae dessert, which brought plenty of smiles and choice, with everyone picking their favourite toppings. Next time, hopefully we are sitting on a warm deck 😂

Creativity has been flowing as well. From guided projects to more open-ended art, residents have enjoyed expressing themselves in their own way, and we now have some beautiful new pieces to enjoy around the home. It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of January. A new year and such a great start. We also welcomed two new entertainers into the home this month, adding even more joy and connection to our days. It’s truly been a good month.

February is shaping up to be just as full, with lots planned for the weeks ahead. We’re looking forward to sharing more of the moments and activities that make Meadow Edge feel like home.🤍

We’re so happy to have Karen back with us at the home, and that means it’s time to start a brand new book together 📖🤍

Our next read is Words on Fire, a powerful story about courage, resistance, and the quiet strength found in books and friendship during wartime. It’s one of those stories that pulls you in slowly and stays with you as it unfolds.
Book club has become one of our residents’ favourite moments of the week. There’s always a warm drink in hand, sometimes a little snack (usually thanks to Bob — who has the sweetest sweet tooth, and we love him for it!), and lots of shared smiles and conversation.

We’re excited to settle in, turn the pages together, and see where this story takes us.

Today we celebrated National Popcorn Day with a little movement and a lot of smiles 🍿
Rose was our special helper, handing out popcorn while residents enjoyed some gentle exercise. Who says you can’t enjoy a treat and stay active at the same time?
Maevelle, our wonderful personal care worker, shared how sweet the moment felt.
“It wasn’t really about the popcorn. It was about moving, laughing, and enjoying the simple joys together.”

Happy 94th birthday, Evelyn! 🎂

Today, we celebrate a woman whose warmth and grace fill every corner of our home. Her kind spirit, gentle smile, and genuine care for those around her make Meadow Edge House feel like family.

Her loved ones shared how she’s always been the heart of every gathering, where laughter flowed freely, delicious food brought everyone together, and not even a heavy snowfall could stop the celebration. She is always creating with her hands, whether knitting, crocheting, or stitching quilts filled with love for her children and grandchildren.
In the kitchen, her grandchildren delighted in helping her, especially when it came to sneaking in those secret ingredients that made her cooking unforgettable.

Evelyn, your creativity, love, and light continue to inspire everyone lucky enough to know you. 💐 We can't wait to celebrate you today!

Our residents had so much fun getting into the Halloween spirit with a little masked fun! 🎃👻

They spent the afternoon decorating their masks, chatting with one another, and getting creative with their designs, a perfect mix of laughter, connection, and creativity.

If you’re in the Lumsden area, don’t forget to pop over to 𝟱 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. Our pumpkin light will be glowing, and our residents would love to see all the cute and spooky costumes.

A huge thank you to Regina Beach Pharmacy for coming out to Meadow Edge House to provide flu and COVID vaccinations for our residents.

Some of our residents had already received their shots while out in the community, and today’s visit ensured everyone else was covered too.
Keeping our residents and staff safe and healthy is always our top priority, and we couldn’t do it without the wonderful support of our community partners. 🤍

We’re so happy to welcome Karen Pike from the Lumsden Library to our home! 📚
Karen will be joining our residents every two weeks as she reads The War That Saved My Life, and it’s already sparked such wonderful conversation and reflection.

We’re always looking for meaningful ways to bring joy and connection to our residents, and this has quickly become a highlight.

A big thank-you to Karen for sharing her time and love of reading with us. ❤️

The other day, our residents had such a great time decorating for fall! 🍂

The window looks so bright and cheerful now. They took their time picking out each little leaf and pumpkin, and it turned out beautifully.

It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of October! The days have been filled with cozy moments, good chats, and lots of creativity. We can’t wait to share some of our Halloween fun with you soon! 🎃

20 years from my first residents to the last resident I will admit to our Carehome including all the wonderful residents we have had over the years, I am truly grateful & blessed to have such life skills. Thank you all out there who have made this such a rewarding journey. Next phase retirement, which we look so forward to.
