Lots of fun activity, while raising money for our Hospital...

🥌 The ice is ready, the teams are set, and the first-ever Curl for Fishermen’s is happening this weekend!

The first annual Curl for Fishermen’s takes over the ice at the Lunenburg Curling Club from February 27 – March 1, bringing our community together for good fun, good food, and a great cause.

This inaugural event is raising funds to support local healthcare at Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, helping ensure friends, family, and neighbours can access the care they need, close to home. đź’™

Stop by to cheer on the teams, enjoy the atmosphere, and be part of the excitement!

Special Thanks to Guest Speakers Brent Laybolt and Megan Eisner from SSRH's Lavender Group Team, who attended FMH Auxiliary's February 26'25 Monthly Meeting - to explain their Teams' functionality of support in an area or hospital setting during a catastrophic event. They would confidentially provide short term emotional support to patients, guests or staff suffering initial pain from a traumatic or horrific event such as a plane crash or forest fire, etc., certainly possible in the event of global warming. Lavender Teams have already been established at South Shore Regional and Valley Regional Hospitals. The Team has already been on site here at Fishermen's in this respect at least a couple of times. Both Registered Nurses, explained that their support is modeled off an evidenced-based strategy akin to psychological first aid that functions as a crisis intervention tool to support any volunteers and staff. There is no formal written documentation of events, and their role is one of peer counselling - not therapy.

The Auxiliary discussed supporting the concept to our Site administration of need for a Lavender Group Team to be established at Fishermen's Memorial. Initial action by our Auxiliary would include a call to SSRH to discuss their setup, and provision of a large plastic tote Emergency Kit filled with items required by the Team (and cash can stored privately) if and when needed on site at Fishermen's in the event of an emergency, prior to a proposed set up of a Lavender Group Team here.
