DOCTORS DAY IS MAY 1

Doctors Day was first recognized as the official day of appreciation for Nova Scotia’s medical profession in 2013. May 1 was selected as Doctors Day to mark the birthday of Canada’s first female physician, Dr. Emily Stowe.

This event is about recognizing Nova Scotia’s doctors and the important work that they do to improve the lives of Nova Scotians and to strengthen our healthcare system.

Is there a doctor who has made a difference in your life? Visit yourdoctors.ca/stories and post a message. On May 1, and every day, we say, “Thanks, doc!”

Happy National Volunteer Week!

Happy National Volunteer Week!

National Volunteer Week is here (April 19–25, 2026), and it’s a moment to recognize the people who quietly change everything.

Volunteers don’t always make headlines, but they make impact—showing up early, staying late, and stepping in wherever they’re needed. They tutor, deliver meals, clean up parks, mentor youth, support families, and strengthen communities in ways that ripple far beyond a single act of service.

This week, we celebrate the time, energy, and heart that volunteers give—not because they have to, but because they choose to.

To every volunteer: thank you for being the reason someone feels supported, seen, and hopeful.

And if you’ve been thinking about getting involved, this is your sign. Even a small act can make a big difference.
