Glen Bowen Works

Glen Bowen Works Certified in Bowen Therapy for both humans and animals. These movements prompt soft tissue release, sending neurological impulses to the brain.

Bowenwork® and Animal Bowen Therapy involve gentle, yet powerful, movements on muscle and connective tissue. Because the impulses travel through the internal nervous system pathways, they stimulate whole brain responses, which address every system in the body -- internal organ systems as well as musculo-skeletal structure. Pauses are inserted between sets of these movements, which allow the brain time to process and send messages to realign the body. Respecting these pauses is an essential component of Bowenwork® and Animal Bowen Therapy for it allows the body sufficient time to remember and restore its own healthy, natural balance.

In Bowen Therapy, we take a whole-body view.

That means your session might focus away from where it hurts — not because it’s being ignored, but because everything is connected.

What shows up as pain might be a ripple from somewhere else entirely.

Ever heard your Bowen Therapist tell you not to wear your wallet in your back pocket?

This photo beautifully illustrates why!

Sitting unevenly can create subtle imbalances that lead to muscle tension, joint strain, nerve irritation, and more, over time.

Hope for Depression — the Power of the Vagus Nerve and Bowen Therapy

New research has found that stimulating the vagus nerve — a key communication pathway between the brain and major organs — can significantly improve the quality of life in people with treatment-resistant depression.

In a clinical trial of 493 participants with major depression, those who received vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) showed measurable improvements in mood, daily functioning, and overall wellbeing — even after years of unsuccessful treatment.

👉 And here's where Bowen Therapy comes in.

Bowen Therapy has a specific vagus nerve procedure, and its aim, along with all Bowen moves, is to shift the body from the flight or fight response (sympathetic nervous system) to the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest mode) where healing can occur.

While the trial involved an implanted device, Bowen Therapy uses the body’s own healing intelligence — with no drugs, no force, and no devices — just targeted, mindful touch.

The vagus nerve connects — and so does Bowen.

The ideal time for Bowen Therapy is immediately after an injury.

That way, your body can overcome the trauma before it begins to compensate for it. The compensations often create more problems in the long run than the initial trauma itself!

If you can't get to your Bowen Therapist immediately, the sooner you can, the better. Within three days is ideal for optimal recovery.

Many people don't find out about Bowen Therapy until weeks, months, or even years of trying other approaches or learning to live with it.

If that's the case with you, you'll get the best results from Bowen if you:

✅ Don't have any other forms of bodywork for four days beforehand.
✅ Avoid heavy exercise on the day of your session.
✅ Don't use ice or heat on the site of injury.
✅ Wear or bring light-weight, loose-fitting clothing that your practitioner can work through. Or be prepared to be worked on in your underclothes, under sheets or blankets for modesty and comfort.
✅ Don't have any other forms of bodywork for five days after treatment to allow for your body to integrate the treatment uninterrupted.

The human body possesses a remarkable ability to heal itself.

Consider what happens when you get a cut. It's not the bandaid that does the healing—it's your body initiating a powerful, natural response.

Red blood cells work to produce collagen, which forms new tissue. The wound gradually fills, fresh skin forms, and the edges draw inward as the injury becomes smaller.

Astonishing, isn't it? And the best part—it all happens without you having to think about it.
