🧡 À l’occasion du Mois national de l’histoire autochtone et des 10 ans de la Déclaration sur les droits des enfants des Premières Nations, la CSSSPNQL rend hommage à celles et ceux qui ont marqué la défense des droits des enfants autochtones.
🎞️ Découvrez le portrait de Nora Bernard (1935-2007), Mi’kmaq de la Première Nation de Millbrook, en Nouvelle-Écosse.
Survivante du pensionnat de Shubenacadie, Nora Bernard a consacré sa vie à défendre les survivants et à faire reconnaître les torts causés par le système des pensionnats. Grâce à sa détermination, elle a initié l’un des plus importants recours collectifs de l’histoire canadienne, menant à la Convention de règlement relative aux pensionnats indiens.
🌿 Au-delà de son engagement, elle est aujourd’hui encore reconnue pour sa sagesse, son humilité et l’amour qu’elle portait à sa communauté.

A survivor of the Shubenacadie residential school, Nora Bernard dedicated her life defending survivors and gaining recognition for the harm caused by the residential school system. Thanks to her determination, she initiated one of the largest class action lawsuits in Canadian history, leading to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement.
🌿 Besides being an inspiring activist, those closest to Nora remember her as a wise, humble woman who was caring and devoted to her family, friends and community.
