Want to build strength but intimidated by gyms?
Sunflower Yoga & Healing Arts has availability in 3 progressive strength training classes starting next week. The local boutique Maple Ridge studio is offering a 7 week weight circuit program that is designed to get you started on your strength building journey. The studio’s cozy size and max of 5 participants affords individualized instruction.
Why Progressive Strength?
Build up capacity to lift heavier things, ie. groceries, children, grandchildren, kayaks, items around the house.... what ever you need to lift.
Build stronger bones. Lifting weights puts stress on the bones. This stress causes the bones to increase bone density.
It can help improve balance.
It can increase your metabolism to help you burn more calories.
Some studies show that it can improve your cognitive abilities.
Classes start Tuesday March 18th from 9am - 10am, Wednesday March 19th from 3:30-4:30pm as well at Thursday March 20th from 7:30pm - 8:30pm. Details can be found at www.sunfloweryoga.ca/offerings

Why do progressive strength training:
Build up capacity to lift heavier things, ie. groceries, children, grandchildren, kayaks, items around the house.... what ever you need to lift.

Sunflower Yoga & Healing Arts has space available in two of the three upcoming studio based Progressive Strength Classes. The classes sized are limited to 5 participants to be able to offer individualized attention. This 7 week set is available to everyone. Beginners welcome. Building strength is a long term commitment. This 7 week set will be a great way to start the journey.

Registration is open for the new 7 week set of classes starting Jan 20th.
The Yoga classes are offered in the studio and online. They include :
Monday 9:30am Gentle Yoga - using a chair as a prop
Monday 7:30pm - Hatha Flow
Thursday 9:30am Yoga for Strength and Balance - using a chair and weights props.
Saturday 9:30am - Yoga for Back and Core strength.

Self - Compassion group classes are offered online. These group classes are a wonderful way learn how to be kind to yourself.
Tuesdays at 10:30am
Wednesdays at 7:30pm

Progressive Strength Classes are offered in the studio.
The focus of these classes is to progressively increase your capacity to lift heavy things. This is helpful for muscular and bone strength. It has also been shown to support cognitive and mental health. Although the set of classes are typically 7 weeks long - strength building is a long term commitment to see any lasting change. This class is open to anyone willing to start where they are and explore gradually increasing their compacity to lift heavier.

For the weeks of Dec 9th and 16th all the classes are offered by donation with all the proceeds going to the Maple Ridge Foodbank. This is a great opportunity to try out a yoga, strength building, or self compassion class. The details about the classes can be found at https://www.sunfloweryoga.ca/offerings

On Monday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 you can attend a gentle yoga class that incorporates the use of a chair for support, and weights for strength. These classes have availability online.

On Monday evening at 7:30pm a more traditional Hatha yoga class is offered. This class has availability in the studio and online.

On Tuesday at 10:30 am and Wednesday at 7:30pm experience a self- compassion group class. These classes are offered online.

On Saturday at 9:30am enjoy a Yoga for Back Care class. This class has availability online or in the studio.

On Tuesday at 4pm, Wednesday at 3:30pm, and Thursday at 7:30pm try a progressive strength class. This class meets you where you are and then provides the opportunity to increase muscle strength, bone density, and cognitive function through loading the tissues of the body. These classes are offered in the studio.

Does thought of meditating for long periods of time with a quiet calm mind seem impossible? Well, you are not alone! Most people I have met, including myself are not able to find peace and calm by sitting silently. This does not mean that meditation and all the amazing health benefits associated with it are unattainable. There are many ways to calm the busy mind. During this 2-hour workshop we will explore many short meditations. Including, but not limited to visualizations, music, mindful eating (yum), candle gazing, even coloring and doing artwork. We will explore an accessible approach to meditation. The intent is to find some mental and physical calm while doing something enjoyable with like minded people.

The Progressive Strength class for beginners is starting May 02nd at 7:30pm in West Maple Ridge. Do you want to feel stronger but not sure where to start? This class is designed to honor your current strength capacity while progressively and mindfully building your muscular strength. Building strength is has many health benefits including but not limited to: enhanced balance, increased bone mass, and increased cognitive function.
The Sunflower Studio is located in West Maple Ridge. It is a boutique style studio with limited space capacity so the class will be small. This allows for personal attention and adaptations as needed. If this sounds interesting to you feel free to send a DM. Further information can be found at:
