We remember our births and how nervous we were and how we didn’t have enough time to read EVERY book (and what were the “right” books?).”

Our clients told us that they thought there would be a lot of chaos in the hospital and found that having our doulas present helped them keep calm. We spend time helping birthing people feel more confident and comfortable birthing at home and especially at the hospital – we are currently the doula practice with the most births at Ridge Meadows Hospital! We will also ensure you have an amazing and smooth home birth if that is your plan. You will always have access to a fresh and capable doula since we work in teams. This is especially important to us as we will make sure you always have a well-rested doula supporting you and your birth if you find yourself experiencing long labour. We remember our births and how nervous we were and how we didn’t have enough time to read EVERY book (and what were the “right” books?). We will lend you books and send you links without you having to spend extra time sifting through the endless amounts of information online! Over the years, postpartum doulas, placenta encapsulation and childbirth education were added making Ridge Meadows Doula Services a one stop shop for all things prenatal to postpartum.

Does your family do elf on the shelf? When my daughter was young, we started this tradition. We adapted some of the “rules” and made an our own. Now with a nearly 16-year-old, our elf lemon, still pops by every year.

Feel free to share your elf ideas below.

I caved this year- Elf on the Shelf December 8, 2013 Over the last few years I’ve seen Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram be polluted from photos of a little red elf hiding in homes and making messes. Up until this year I was not interested in A) cleaning up after the little thing B) remem...

Slate grey nevus, also known as blue-grey spots or congenital dermal melanocytosis, are a type of birthmark that are typically flat and blue-grey, or sometimes purple, in colour.

They are most common on babies with Black and Brown skin and are generally found on the sacrum and buttocks, but can also be observed on arms and legs.

Slate grey nevus are NOT bruises. They are simply the result of pigment cells, or melanocytes, not reaching the surface of the skin.⁣ They do not hurt and generally require no treatment; they often fade by the age of 4.

If you identify a slate grey nevus when doing a baby examination, or NIPE, it is important to document it. This is to avoid it later being mistaken for a bruise.

Finally - you may have heard these birthmarks called ‘Mongolian blue spots’. This is derogatory, racially insensitive terminology and should NOT be used. If you hear it used in practice, please take the time to correct it. We can all play our part in decolonising language and midwifery education.

We are so honoured to share that Ridge Meadows Doula Services has been voted an A-List Winner in the

Thank you to our amazing community for your continued trust and support whether you’ve invited us into your birth space, joined a class, or shared our name with a friend, you’ve helped us grow and serve more families each year.

We also want to give a special shoutout to our local midwives , who took second place! While doulas and midwives work closely together, our roles are beautifully different, midwives provide medical care, while doulas offer emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Together, we make a strong team supporting families in our community.

From our whole doula collective- thank you, Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows, for your trust and love!

On November 15 at 7 PM, we invite you to light a candle in remembrance of the babies gone too soon.
Together, we’ll create a wave of light that shines across homes and hearts honouring the beautiful lives that touched us deeply.

Take a moment to pause, reflect, and hold space for all families who carry this love and loss.

Feeling deeply thankful today.
Thankful for the beautiful, unceded territory we live and work on which grounds and connects us.
Thankful for the time spent with friends and family- for laughter, love, and support that remind us we’re never alone.
And thankful for our clients- for trusting us to walk beside you through some of the most tender and transformative moments of your lives.

It’s an honour to do this work and to share this space with such incredible people.

Today, we pause to honor Survivors of residential schools, the children who never made it home, and the families and communities forever impacted by this harmful history.

The impacts of residential schools are not just in the past, they are carried through generations. They live in our bodies, our parenting, our communities, and in the ways we work toward healing.

At Ridge Meadows Doula Services, we recognize that birth and parenting journeys cannot be separated from the history of colonization. Supporting families means acknowledging these truths, listening deeply, and walking alongside both Indigenous and non-Indigenous families with respect, compassion, and commitment to reconciliation.

For education, reflection, and pathways to action, see:

Today and every day, we commit to truth-telling, honoring Survivors, and creating pathways to healing.

In solidarity,

✨What’s getting us through September ✨

September is a whirlwind with back-to-school drop offs, activities starting back up, and even navigating family medical emergencies. We are all working parents balancing everything from daycare drop-offs to 10th-grade homework help. We do this all while holding space for our clients.

What keeps us steady is the same care we encourage for the families we support: taking care of ourselves, so we can take care of you.

We’re grateful for the strength of our collective. We lean on each other when schedules collide, when unexpected life moments happen, and when the calendar gets a little too full.

Because when doulas support doulas, we show up as our best selves for the families we serve.

Tylenol does not cause autism.

Correlation does not equal causation. Bikini sales and ice cream sales both rise in the summer, but bikinis do not cause ice cream sales.

Autism was being diagnosed before Tylenol was even invented. Autism was recognized in 1946, while Tylenol was invented in 1955.

Research supports this:
• A 2024 Swedish sibling-control study of over 2.4 million children found no evidence that acetaminophen (Tylenol) use during pregnancy causes autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability once genetic and family factors were controlled.

Listen to your healthcare provider. Follow the evidence, not trending TikTok videos or people that have no business making medical announcements.

RMDS is so excited to share our newest doula in our collective with you.

Kehew-Neepin is an Indigenous Doula, honored to be supporting families as a guest on the unceded, shared territories of the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) and qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓ (Kwantlen) peoples. By holding space with compassion, respect, and cultural awareness, Kehew integrates Nehiyaw (Cree) traditional knowledge with modern birth support.

As a doula, Kehew’s goal is to empower birthing people, honor their choices, and provide emotional, physical, and informational support every step of the way. She believe’s birth is not just a moment, but a ceremony, a transformative experience that connects family, community, and culture.

Kehew is here to walk alongside you, celebrating your strength, honoring your journey, and nurturing the generations that come after.
