RICE vs. MOVE: Which Should You Use After an Injury? 🦵❄️🏃‍♂️

You’ve likely heard of the RICE method — Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation — for dealing with sprains or strains. But newer research supports the MOVE technique: Movement, Options, Vary, Ease.

So which one is better? 🤔 It depends on the injury, and more importantly, the timing.

As the flowers bloom and the weather warms up, many of us feel inspired to get outdoors and be active. However, jumping back into physical activities without proper preparation can increase the risk of injury. Stretching is a simple yet effective way to prepare your body for movement, improve flexibility, and prevent injuries.

We suggest hip flexor stretch, hamstring stretch, chest stretch, calf stretch and quadriceps stretch! They’ll help you stay flexible, avoid that post-gardening backache, and keep your knees and shoulders happy too!!

NEVER stretch through pain….You should always feel better after your stretches! Read our blog for more tips!

COVID-19 UPDATE


In response to this unprecedented, uncertain time, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close our doors as of March 20, 2020 - April 3, 2020 inclusive (with exception to our most acute and urgent care patients). The Canadian Physiotherapy Association has suggested we all comply with the social distancing recommendations set forth by our Public Health Authorities. We all need to do our part to flatten the curve on the advancement of COVID19.

The safety of our staff, our patients and our community are our highest priority. We are looking for ways to keep you healthy and fit while maintaining social distancing. We want to support you through this time, and are looking for ways to continue to assist you with your rehabilitation process. Our physiotherapy association is currently looking into online physiotherapy consultation and treatment sessions for those seeking advice on exercises or at home progress.

This information will be available soon, and will allow Telerehabilitation: virtual or conference calls. We will update you as we gain more information. Follow us on facebook or on our website for up to date information. We will keep the phone and website up to date with a tentative re-opening date.
