We didn’t hand out candy or dress up this year but here’s a look back at a costume from a few years ago.

Trying to get back into the habit of journaling. It really helped me deal with my thoughts and fears before and after hip replacements. There is something therapeutic about writing things down instead of keeping them in my head. A form of release and communication, even if just with myself.

Does anyone else journal? Do you find it helps?

We have some special news to share with everyone.
Juan gave me the best birthday present ever in June, an engagement ring made with a Colombian emerald and Canadian diamonds. Signifying the joining of our two families.
And to top that off in January 2021 we will be welcoming the third member of our family, a baby boy. We`re very excited to see what adventures await us.

And so the adventure begins...

I’ve been quiet through COVID-19 for the most part. There are several reasons to this. One being that I found I had to limit my social media time as it was impacting my mental health in the initial months of quarantine. I worked on focusing on things I could control, which included more ‘me’ time reading, zoom calls with friends and family and time with Juan.
So much has happened in the world over the last 7+ months and the same is for us here at home. Being able to step back was important to me but I’m coming back. I have updates and more news to share in the weeks to come. The hip journey continues and I can’t wait to share more soon ❤️

3 years ago today I said hi to a new left hip 🤖

How things have changed, physically, mentally and every other way possible. Best decision of my life.

Having made the decision to get my hips replaced has allowed me to do more physically and accomplish more then I could have ever imagined. Returning to skating, adventure racing and hiking the south to north rim of the Grand Canyon to man a few. I’m one lucky woman.

Happy Sibling Day!! I’m lucky enough to have as my one and only sister ❤️
We will be together again when this is all over, I can’t wait 🥰 At which point we will get a more recent photo of the two of us 📸

Today’s run meant laps alone. Doing what I can to protect the hips from the pavement during this time when trails aren’t readily available or an appropriate choice in my area 😭

With all the social distancing it’s easy to just stay inside hiding from the world during this scary time. However, a walk alone or with your co-isolation partner/family is good for both your physical and mental health ❤️ Stay safe everyone

Nothing like the unconditional love of a pet ❤️

Pets can help with surgery recovery. It’s amazing how they can sense your need for rest and love. Luna helped by comforting me during down time and providing cuddles when needed.

My Story

I am a 31 year old with a right and left total hip replacement (both with bone grafts). Which occurred in October of 2016 and May of 2017 respectively.

After being told that I required a bilateral hip replacement I found it very hard to educate myself on what my experiences and expectations should be. All the research and blogs out there were catered towards older individuals (obviously!) since someone my age rarely requires such measures. I couldn't find a resource for someone my age or at my stage of life (i.e. pre-child bearing).

I am hoping that since I have now gone through part of this process that I could help others feel like they aren't alone in this journey.

I hope this helps, and if it doesn't, then at least it's therapeutic for me.
