The MRI Trap 🛑📸 

It’s completely natural to want answers *right now* when you’re in pain. But relying solely on a scan can sometimes do more harm than good. 

An MRI shows structure very well, and that may or may not correlate with how you function and time of your injury. It can pinpoint a disc bulge or arthritis, but it has trouble telling us if that finding happened last month or ten years ago. It also can’t see the complex way your muscles, nerves, and movement patterns interact. 

Too often, seeing a scary word on a report causes patients to freeze up, move less, and worry more—which directly feeds back into the pain cycle. 

There is absolutely a time and place for imaging. But a scan should only ever be a small piece of the puzzle, never the whole picture. We treat the person, not the paper.

As a chiropractor, I asked one of my patients recently:

“How do you handle your pain so well?” 🤔

And her answer really stuck with me.

She said:
“As a devout Christian, I think about Jesus on the cross and the pain He endured. So if He could go through that… I can handle a little pain too.” ✝️

Now whether you’re religious or not, there’s still something powerful in that perspective. 👀

Because sometimes the way we VIEW a situation changes the way we EXPERIENCE it.

Pain is physical…
But perspective, mindset, stress, emotions, beliefs — they all influence how we respond to it. 🧠

Is your wallet a literal pain in the neck—or rather, the hip? 🛑💳 

Sitting for long periods with a wallet in your pocket is a common habit that can lead to significant physical discomfort 😫. Whether it’s in the back or the front, that extra bulk can place undue stress on your hips and back, leading to persistent pain and structural imbalances 📉. 

Why it matters: 🧠 
* **The Back Pocket “Shim”:** Placing a large wallet in your back pocket creates a high point under one side of your pelvis 🍑. This tilts your foundation and forces your spine into a compensatory curve to keep your head level, which can lead to nerve pressure and lower back tension ⚡. 

* **The Front Pocket Pinch:** While often thought of as safer, a bulky front-pocket wallet can create a pressure point that pinches key nerves and hip flexors during long bouts of sitting 🪑. This “impingement” can cause localized pain and discomfort in the groin and hip area 🩹. 

Better Alternatives for Your Body: 🌿 
Your body works best when it is balanced and free of restriction ⚖️. To help maintain proper spinal and pelvic alignment, try these simple shifts: 
1. **Remove it:** Make it a habit to take your wallet out of your pocket as soon as you sit down at your desk or in your car 🚗💨. 
2. **Go Minimalist:** Swap your overstuffed wallet for a slimmer card holder to reduce the physical “bump” it creates 💳✨. 
3. **Use a Bag:** Store your essentials in a jacket pocket, f***y pack, or sling bag to keep your hips level and your spine neutral 🎒🧥.
